EAGLES LOSE 1-3 TO EGYPT

The African Nations Cup started on a bad note for Nigeria Tuesday when the Super Eagles went down 1-3 to defending champions Egypt.

It was a show of character by the Pharaohs who came from behind to inflict a disgraceful defeat on the Eagles at the newly constructed Ombaka Stadium in Benguela.

Though the Nigerian side showed some promise in the first half when they shot ahead in the 12th minute, they were clearly the inferior team in the second with the Egyptians scoring two goals and looked like running up a wider margin win.

Chinedu Obasi had put Nigeria in the lead with an impressive individual goal when he let fly a left-foot cracker turning the Egyptian left back, Mohamed Moawad, inside out.

It was a strike that crowned the Nigerians’ confident, but slow passing game.

The Egyptians did equalize in the 34th minute to stake a claim to the contest but the Nigerians had the edge, having more of the chances and having what looked like a credible penalty claim overlooked by the centre referee.

The Egyptian’s goal was the first real manifestation of the Nigerian team’s defensive frailties as Captain Ahmed Hassan’s pass from midfield cut open the Eagles backline leaving Emad Moteab clear on goal. He was able to ride the tackle from keeper Vincent Enyeama to slide the ball into an empty net.

It was an entirely different game in the second half as the North Africans showed their true colours and dominated the Eagles. Hassan’s fierce shot took a deflection off Taye Taiwo to leave goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama stranded as the six-time champions took the lead in the 54th minute.

It was a lead that further took the steam out of the Eagles as all the enterprise they showed in the opening half of the game looked to have vanished.

The Nigerian attack became jaded and the defence very sloppy.

Not even the introduction of Victor Nsofor and Nwankwo Kanu could inspire resurgence and it was no surprise when a poor pass to Kanu by right back Yussuf Mohammed was intercepted by Moawad who raced on to set up substitute Mohamed Gedo for Egypt’s third goal with three minutes of regulation time left on the clock.

Even with four additional minutes, it was Egypt that had the better chances at increasing the scoreline.

EAGLES LINE UP:

Vincent Enyeama, Yusuf Mohammed, Taye Taiwo, Dickson Etuhu, Obinna Nwaneri, Joseph Yobo-C, Kalu Uche (Victor Nsofor), Mikel Obi (Nwankwo Kanu), Chinedu Obasi, Yakubu Aiyegbeni, Yussuf Ayila.

Amodu has not proven beyond doubt he is a big occation coach. He doesnt seem to have it all when the chips are down, i mean, when it comes to the crunch he falls like a pack of cards. High time a foriegn tactician is hired to thinker the eagles.

Before the match I knew Egypt will be beat the wingless Eagles, from my observation, the coach simple has notting to offer, He is unfit to take Super Eagles to places. He does not even know what he is doing his substitutuons are questionable keeping Yakubu who is suffering from overweight on the pitch for 90 minutes. I don’t think he has any short on goal for 90 minutes. Anyway, I know Nigeria will not go beyond the group stage. I wonder what Yak was doing on pitch someone who doesn’t even make 1st team of Everton and his coach was very relieved when he was comming to Nations cup. The coach should not take Nigeria to world cup because you can’t teach what you don’t know.

well thats a good test for Amodu and he has failed. u stupid workers of complete sports started praising kanu. to hell with Amodu. how can a good coach remove two good midfielders and bring kanu and nsofor? they started well and i thought this foolish coach will change yakubu who played nothing throughout the game. Look at the guy he wanted to drop, OBASI, Everyone saw what he displayed including getting the only goal. stupid coach.

  • Big Sam wrote on 12 January, 2010, 19:45

Yes, I will help you. The problem with Amodu is that he has no head not to talk of where the thought of the technics will come from. When the Egyptians equalized, he was so confused that it’s written all over his face. Why did he used Mikel more into defence and Uche more into attack in the first half? Uche did not do a single job rather loosing the chances that cos Obasi alot pains to carve out. When Mikel move forward in the second half we saw him with Obasi trying to work something out then all of a sudden, Mumu Amodu removed him for a speedless player with huge experience but lack speed and strenght. What is our statle doing there for 90 mins-Bros yakubu? Why can’t Amodu remove Yakubu for Kanu if there is no fit players available. Let them change the coach now, it will be too late if we wait for this tournament to finish.

  • olu aboderin wrote on 12 January, 2010, 19:52

the problem with nigeria is the confused people at the NFF office in Abuja. It is very obvious that th eagles coach lack the technical abilities to coach at this level. The formation of the eagles was faulty at the on set.

We need a good coach with good technical touches. Don’t forget that this same Egypt beat the Ivorians 4-1 at the Semi final in the last nations cup, that is to tell you they are good. The present Eagles squad in the nations cup minus Yobo, Yakubu and Iwaneri plus Adeleye, Rabiu and Ajilore can be a good world cup team. Yobo, Yakubu and Iwaneri are just decorators while Mumu Amodu is the national Statle. I don’t know why people are always talking about NFF, it means NO FUTURE FOREVER! Why do we expect anything good from them? Lets see what will happen against Benin

  • dipo wrote on 12 January, 2010, 20:09

The coach obviously needs some more football tour, a big lessons, he seems not to uderstand the game at all, when he needed goals and he left under performing Yakubu on the pitch, must he play Kanu for heavens sake? for heavens sake what is Kanu doing in the squad guess he should have call up Rasheed Yekini also, Yobo has been under performing at his club lately and that he displaced tonight, guess all this so called automatic shirt guys need to compete for their place
…what a joke we have as a coach i can only hope he wins the next two games.

What a good result, afterall with this type of result Amodu will not cry foul of being sack.I said it b4 that Obina Nwaneri is not good enough at this level,Yusuf Mohammed should not have been in the squad at all,Yobo is being played out of position.Amodu congratulations for digging your own grave, remeber like all the players you are playing for your world cup position. If Egypt can beat us three goal to one, then i wonder by how many goals the Argies will beat us with Amodu in charge.Like i said the coach that will take us to the world cup is already watching our game just like Mancini was at the city of Machester stadium to watch Mark Hughes fumbled like Amodu.

  • Olumide Akinrelere wrote on 12 January, 2010, 20:42

What you don’t have, you can’t give. Its more than Amodu….

It has to do with Taiwo Ogunjobi and the thieves in NFF. As long as these rogues are there, Nigeria cannot do well in Her football!

  • sojeagbase wrote on 12 January, 2010, 20:48

    Guys, lets face it.
Apart from Amodu’s defiencies, do we really have the players to hold our own against Egypt.

Mikel is touted as our best player but he can’t take a good shot at goal. I don’t know how he and those who rever him, expect him to score. Against Egupt he did make a dribbling run into the box and he got into the edge of the 6 yard box but could not direct the ball towards goal even with the faintest of left foot shots. With all our big names I dont think any of our midfielders is as good as benin’s playmaker, Stephan Sessegni\on

  • sojeagbase wrote on 12 January, 2010, 20:54

Benin may be playing 2-2 with mozambique but I fear for our Eagles when we come up against them.

The thing is that Amopdu is too defensive in his approach nand that gives the opponent the advantage.

Football is all abt scoring goals.

Those that win are the teams who areoffensive or have very offensive players

  • peter wrote on 12 January, 2010, 20:56

  • luqman wrote on 12 January, 2010, 20:59

Amodus selection was faulty in the defence, muhamed had no business in that team, and you noticed at a time they stopped passing the ball to him , apam should have been in place for nwanneri. The midfield was ok but we lacked a playmaker who would have made a difference. yak should have been replaced, he never made any attempt at goal. Amodu should brace up to his expectations, nothing short of a semi ticket is expected. amodu please wake up.

  • kenneth philips wrote on 12 January, 2010, 20:59

Dear Mr Amodu, thanks for begging to be sacked. No world cup place for you sir. The present eagles has no BALLS, or rather like we always say, NO LIVER. I hope before the world cup, the new coaches will invite players that are capable……amoebi, onuoha, anichebe, name them. What a shame! Even if they win this tournament, they are still flops!

  • Kingsley O wrote on 12 January, 2010, 20:59

haha I saw it coming. amodu sucks, the eagles have a good team minus kanu, if you ask me our coach is just awful. I cant believe he didnt sub yakubu, I cant believe osaze sat on the bench the whole time. I want to hear from those people that said amodu should rip the fruits of his labour. those are the people i’m actually angry at. mikel was converted from an attacking minded midfielder to a defensive midfielder by jose, and every coach after jose has played mikel in defensive midfield, why? because thats all he can do now but to show that amodu is the worse coach ever, he still plays him as an attacking midfield. If you ask me the nigerian defence isnt good and thats why they need to play mikel in front of them but I dont expect amodu to see that. we have tons of defensive midfielders and not one single attacking midefielder, a smart coach would know that the best kind of game for nigeria to be playing would be a defensive type of game, so more like the chelsea style or the style italy plays. You need to adapt play to the kind of players you have. I swear I think I would do a better job than amodu haha. anyways i hope they get eliminated in the group stages so we have some more time to regroup cause we are not winning the trophy forsure.

the amazing thing is the look on his face when the game is going badly. what does he expect? barry silkman recounted in a british newspaper how he gave amodu cash for yakubu’s transfer to maccabi haifa from Berger FC, lulu’s NFA kept quiet at the time, but then we know how they got in, with ogunjobi stabbing his former colleagues in the back. lulu has said he will sink or swim with amodu. but then God will talk to him and if nigerians want him he will not go anywhere near the river. by the way the whole NFF board is in angola, just like they were all in Ghana. when you AGGREGATE ALL THE JUNIOR TEAMS, HOME PLAYERS, PLAYERS ON THE AFRICAN CONTINENT, ASIA, LESSER EUROPEAN COUNTRIES WE HAVE SURPLUS TALENT, BUT CAN WE MAKE THE BEST OUT OF THEM? WITH THESE PRESENT ADMINISTRATION? IF YOU IMPORT THE LATEST FERRARI INTO NIGERIA A ROADSIDE MECHANIC WILL TELL YOU HE CAN EASILY SERVICE IT, JUST AS ALL TOKUNBO TV SETS HAVE AN ‘I.C’ PROBLEM.

For heaven’s sake what was Ayebeni doing on the picth for 90 mins while Osaze and obafemi  were on the bench? Today’s match is an eye opener that   Amodu lacks the technical dept to win any competative match. If we intend to win any match at  the world cup, now is the time to act. A stitch in time will save nine. Amodu must be sacked after the nation cup and Siasia called upon to go to the world cup with the silver medalist eagles at the last olympic football event to be spiced up with few members of the older crop of eagles. It is too late to bring a foriegn coach, he will not have enough time to be able know and blend the team.

  • Laside wrote on 12 January, 2010, 21:51

What we watched today should not surprise anybody. The reality is that our football has turned to elements of superstitions with pastors, prophets and Marabouts controlling everyone from NFF to the players. everyone is waiting from prophecies from popular prophets to get results. everyone knows Amodu is not good. he should reep the fruit of his labour while we kill ourselves with hypertension watching our national team. I wonder the excuses NFF wll give us again to cover up Amodu. Nobody can separate Amodu from Yobo and Yakubu, he will field them even when they are dead. He selects his team based on the fantasies he had with these players in 2001. Only God knows why he discarded the defence that played against FRANCE. Will someone save us from all these. Our honour for the past 50 years are falling like park of cards, Peter Utaka,Akpala and eneramo would have done better than Yakubu today. ARGENTINA WILL DAZE US. It is not a secret that Yakubu and Yobo influenced team selection and pressed on Amodu to delete Adeleye and Olabayo from the team.

A coach of Amodu left aiyegbeni for the entire duration when they claim that MARTINS is fit? PLS stop all the lies, it takes us nowhere. This same thing happend today Amodu lost the grip. For goodness sake, Yobo , Nwaneri, kanu and Yakubu should stay away from this team, We lost this match through the two central defenders and the attack speareheaded by Yaks. the mid filed was splendid and the removal of Mikel and Uche and bringing Kanu was a technical crime and that was when the Egyptains rapped the game. Amodu has shown us who he is and he has nothing more to offer. our qualification to the wc was total resolution of the players and not Amodus import of technical know how.
Goodbye Nigerians from Angola. Tell me how we can contain the speedy, Artistic messmerising Messi of Arentina in Nelson Mandale Country? Big Poser for LULU AND NFA. Mr. Ik Green In Russia.

Shame! NFF passed vote of confidence on Amodu. I would have done better as a coach of the Super Eagles. Amodu couldn’t see that Yakubu was useless after 55mins but I saw it. Amoducouldn’t see that Yusuf Mohammed should have been substituted after the first half but I saw it. Amodu didn’t know that Mikel was doing a good job in that midfield but pulled him out but I know it was the end of the game for them. What happened to Obafemi? With due respect, Kanu should leave this team for strong players. Definitely this team and Amodu will be disgraced by Argentina and Greece. NFF stop Politics and change Amodu now! Oga Mumini be bold and speak against this disgrace on Nigeria called Amodu

Please, nobody should insult Papilo for any reason, that guy has tried for this country and deserves our respect. How many minutes was he given by Amodu? Can you imagine, while the coach whose boys are leading was busy fortifying his team, Amodu was busy leaning on his bench. It’s high time fans pursue Amodu out of our stadium cos if we still alloy those glass house rats, Amodu will still be there til next year because they know there cut. I won’t watch there match agin.

Amadu was forced to include Obasi into his team when the player was almost planning to return to his base .Before the tournament began I said it several times that countries like Ghana and Ivory Coast would have be proud to have player like Obasi in their national team.If countries like Benin,Cameroun and the rest can hire foreign coach that can see very well what is stoping Nigeria from doing the same? Corruption! Corruption !Corruption is the answer to this simple question. We have talked, many have prophesized the deficiecy of our NFF to differenciate between good and bad. In the minds of 150 millions Nigerians, losing 1-3 to Egypt might be embaracing one but does it mean anything to Lulu led NFF? For all indication the lost does’t matter as long as the benefit they get from taken the wrong direction out weigh the interest of all Nigerians. We all watched the match and saw what went wrong:Poor goal keeping, poor defensive, lack of cohensive midfield and the upfront was nothing to write home about.Must Enyeama be life goalkeeper for eagles? The lost might not be individual error but I must say without apology that there must be an urgent replacement for Enyeama,Nwaneri and Yakubu if eagles should even dream of drawing the last two matches.I reserve my comment till next match.

But the stupid mumudo who last went for coaching course in the 80′s put in trust of a team in the  twenty century..someone making a blunder substitution. of all the matches played so far in AFCON all the substitutes have made impact in games except of course our own super chickens. Tell me the real goal poachers in that eleven chickens on the field team except outdated, fatty ,lazy aiyegbemi who can’t even displace a saha’s that have pass his prime time in football. All he could do through out 90 mins is no goal attempt at go.we should have better play 1o players than the eleven accredited to us on the field.Lets them the super chicken to  play the remaining matches and then the team should be disbanded and like the westeroff ‘s in 1989, we should start afresh. every one is experiencing recession lets take this as one of those in the national team. four yrs plan might be the way forward not the fire bridge approach of we Nigerians.

Anyway Lulu have said it that no coach in the world will replace Amodu unless sir Alex fergusson, so we shouldnt bother ourselves to ask them to change amodu. All that i want to tell you beloved soccer fans is to be patient, amodu and eagles will play 3 matches in angola and return, then in june they will play 3 matches at the world cup and head home. Let me tell all of us what will happen to Nigeria.
WE WILL LOSE 0-2 TO BENIN, and LOSE 1-2 TO MOZAMBIQUE.

I once predicted that Switzerland will win the Golden eaglets, but people laughed.
I later predicted that Nigeria will be grouped with Argentina and Greece, but no one took me serious.
Unless we hire FRANK RIJKAARD to work with SIASIA, we shall be embarassed at the world cup.

    The results will be:

    NIGERIA VS GREECE : 2-1

    2nd Round:-
    URUGUAY VS NIGERIA : 1-1
    Penalty : Nigeria wins 5-3

    Quarter Finals :-
    NIGERIA VS ENGLAND : 2-4

We return home with pride, and we’ll be sure to win the next African cup of nations.

And for the records, BRAZIL WILL MEET SPAIN IN THE FINAL MATCH.

FRANK RIJKAARD IS CURRENTLY COACHING GALATASARAY IN TURKEY. HE HAS A TWO YEAR CONTRACT WITH THEM WITH A CLAUSE IN HIS CONTRACT WHICH GIVES HIM THE POWER TO TERMINATE THE CONTRACT AT ANYTIME HE WISHES AS LONG AS HE PAYS A SETTLEMENT FEE/FINE.

In every desert of Trial, God has an oasis of comfort which lies with the NFF, Team Coach and our team. My People, I used to be one of those who clamoured for a fair treatment on Amodu. But M-e-e-n, the game was disastrous, annoyingly embarassing and shameful. Amodu showed a complete lack of composure, total technical inteptitude, folding hands and hiding behind Amokachi. I bet his palm must have been greezed by Aiyegbeni. Yak had no business in that team – to imagine that Amodu kept him on for 94 mins leaves more to be explained. Martin assured he will be ready for that game and he was on the bench. Any explanation ? Even if Osaze was not completely fit as a result of flu he would`ve been far better than Yak on the pitch. The international media was shocked at the removal of Mikel. It all tells me that Amodu does not read the game at all – His team was losing and underpressured yet, his first substitution came well into the 70th minute when his counterpart was busy switching players and changing tactics. HE IS NOT EQUAL TO THE TASK, NO SENTIMENTS NOW! But then I ask myself – what use will all these comments serve? the whole nigerian system is collapsing and leaders don`t seem to be honest in execution of their duties….what a shame!

  • afeez wrote on 13 January, 2010, 9:18

well i still wonder why the Nigerian best player is on bench throughout the match(osaze), and to be candid enyeama is not the one for nigeria, he looses concentration on match, so as the team, nobody knows its wing, let obi plays in 4 position and he can help the defence. kudos to obasi.

  • majesty wrote on 13 January, 2010, 9:25

Amodu is a disgrace.  the players are good except ayegebeni and mohmed yesuf.  Ayegebeni is not suppose to be in that team.  Eneramo is better than ayegbeni.  He can’t run.  the worse thing is that the coach allowed him to play for over 90 minutes.  Amodu should be checked concerning how he selects players.  I am not sure he is the one to take nigeria to the world cup.

He never wanted C. Obasi to be enlisted but Obasi proved his selection yesterday.  What is happening to Martins, and Osazee. Injury or not, they are better and should have played at list 20 minutes.

  • Emmanuel Nnanta wrote on 13 January, 2010, 9:25

Amodu is technically deficient to handle these boys. He should be dismissed immediately otherwise be would bring more shame to the nation. I think he deserves a place in nigerian division 3 league not in national team. A coach who cannot read a match and make perfect changes when necessary is definitely not a coach. I rate him below average.

  • ik wrote on 13 January, 2010, 9:34

You people talk about replacement Amodu has no bench or even a joker, just look at the under 17, his first 11 was good then his bench he has hope too, that boy Emmanuel was his joker who get goal when ever he enter, look Amodu went to this AFCON with dead woods, matins is injured why take him to there Eneramoe knows this north Africans very well why remove him and carry all this useless players, look chidi odia, at the bench, osaze at the bench, look Nigeria may qualify but we will be disgraced, just look at Stephen Keshi, i wish we will have him as Eagles coach but he not agree to come.

  • kelechi ogbonna wrote on 13 January, 2010, 9:35

i want to belive that amodu is not a tactical coach he cannot lead us to the world cup.he is a coach that can not rise up to the occassion when the chips are down.respect c. obasi

  • OLUFEMI OWOADE wrote on 13 January, 2010, 9:36

Amodu should be asked why he kept Aiyegbeni on the pitch for 90 mins without substituting him. Also, let somebody ask him why he removed Mikel and Uche.
Also, for some years back, it is always difficult for the Super eagles winning their first matches in Nations cup competition. In Algiers 1990, we lost to Algeria 5 goals to 1 in opening match, In 2006 just to mention a few, we lost to Morroco by 1 goal to NIL, In 2008, we lost our opening match to Cote D’ivore by a lone goal. History has a way of repeating itself. In 2010 in Angola , we lost the opening match this time around by a wide margin of 3 goals to one.
I’m not in support of removing Amodu because this is the guy that qualified us for the world cup but Technical adviser should be given to him.

  • Fancy wrote on 13 January, 2010, 9:37

Let Amodu go to that his socall prophet that claimed to qualified Nigerian to the World Cup to help him win the remaining matches.

  • ik wrote on 13 January, 2010, 9:42

If Nigeria can get Keshi that will be fine, let him overhaul all this dead woods and just build his team around Yobo and osaze, others should find their way or maybe this guys are good but amodu do not know how to use them, how can you play uche at the left hand side, but the only player that impressed me in that team was Etuhu, look at kanu 33 years and old, kanute of Mali is the same age with him and the Mozambique captain is 36 years but very hot Ambrosini in AC Milan is of age but very hot, calouse puyol is of age very hot why, Nigerian players are like this we get a first goal and relax, i cant believe that a player with throat problem can not play a match

  • ik wrote on 13 January, 2010, 9:47

OLUFEMI OWOADE what do you mean by that so history cannot be braked?, please stop talking that all that Amodu men should be pushed out, they are not good at all imagin coach that does not have bench, he dont even know who to change, look before, when nigeria make changes the person going out and the person going in are just the same, even some times our bench is better than our first 11

  • pilot wrote on 13 January, 2010, 9:48

Amodu, should be sacked, he had talents on the bench but refused to use them, those Egyptians were fast & physical, instead of bringing on someone like martins & push mikel(awful performance), back to the role he’s used to at chelsea, he brought on a slow kanu, wat on earth was ayegbeni still doing on the field? We definitely deserve the loss

  • Ariyo A S wrote on 13 January, 2010, 9:53

There is no how the present so-called super eagles can triumph with the present set of players. Amodu will always play overweight Yakubu because they are from the same place- Auchu,Edo State. He dropped Adeleye, Olubayo and almost Obasi because the press calls them Siasia boys. Where then is national pride? Its unfortunate. We pray Benin and Mozambique will not disgrace us. The time to make amend is now.

Gentlemen, let’s take a moment to re-analsye the match again from start to end. You must all agree with me that the Eagles for the first time in about 4yrs played the most purposeful football yesterday, the first half was superb even they conceded a goal. The later part of the second half was when things started goin wrong. Now, at this point the rest was up to AMODU; a good coach worth his salt should have been able to improvise and juggle some options. He did not!

  • ik wrote on 13 January, 2010, 10:07

look if Amodu can use osaze at top 9 since obasi is doing his roll bringing in balls in the 18, because osaze is an attacker in his club, but in the super eagle they play him in the hand right side why? look at taiwo he turn his back at a short from the egypt captain, i have players save such ball with their face, i have see players save such ball with their cheast or even if it toch his hands is better then we know he show comitted to father land infact the team petner is not good, so all this Amodu’s close door traning is for us to be disgraced, look egypt coach is very inteligent only one man was disturbing nigeria zidan runing up and down they did not use with at all they used the central midfild to finish nigeria they don’t even has much ball crossing, and you want to face such man with Amodu

Nigerians are not patient at all. The only language they understand is vioctory. What do you want Algier to do? Imagine a world cup team thaty lost to a tiny Malawi by 3 goals to 0. This is just a first match, we have tWO more matches to go. I’m not saying that history canot be broken but this Eagle can still fly. Everyone of us agreed that Amodu committed a blunder in the opening match but that shouldn’t call for the removal of his head. Let’s give him another chance. Football is no mathematics and it is not a game of winning winning all the time. Egypt, mind you, is one of the favourites in this competition and she is the defending champion. This same team beat Cote D’ivore 4 goals to 1 in 2008 semi final. LET’S BE PATIENT AND PRAY FOR EAGLES TO FLY.

  • FAVOURE wrote on 13 January, 2010, 10:22

That is always the case when mediocre are allowed to rule. I don’t see the reason why yakubu, nwaneri and yussuf mohamed who could not even trap a free ball was allowed to make the squard and Amodu finds it difficult to select a good team talkless of making good changes. please, to avoid further disgrace, NFF should swallow their pride and draft in Siasia to take over as he has what it takes to select a super squard that will make us proud in the world cup or are we still hoping to progress from this stage because nigeria will not win benin talkless of mozambique from the turn of events.

Patience, people. The nations cup is not over yet. Suppose this is a round-table summon for Amodu,  he will wriggle out very easily If we cry for his head. His argument? THIS IS JUST THE FIRST MATCH, AFTER ALL EVEN MIGHTY TEAMS LIKE CAMEROON & COTE D’IVOIRE HAD LOST TO THE SAME EGYPTIAN TEAM BEFORE. I am sure Amodu knows that the semi-final target given to him is a ploy. It’s another way of telling him AMODU, WE KNOW YOUR TEAM WILL NOT MAKE IT THAT FAR. BUT WE CAN’T JUST SACK YOU. JUST DO YOUR BEST, FAIL, AND GET FIRED.

So friends, let’s wait and see how far this team can go. Like someone said earlier on, Algeria’s case is was. They stopped the Egyptians from going to the WC, now they’ve lost to Malawi. But I think that it will do us all a lot of good if we wish Amodu well, not bad.

  • k Wil wrote on 13 January, 2010, 10:33

The problems had been NFF+AMODU.we all new quite well that Amodu lacks the tactical know-how because SE has the material to execute their plan but somebody in charge should be able to transform good individuals to a team.We saw a promising first half, but rather tactically unfurnished 2nd half.Yakubu would have been left off the team,i felt this guy has two left legs moreover SE needs fast ,strike that could go for one to one.Joseph Akpala plays in Belgium ,the friendly he played against France was very good.even after the nations cup friendlys should be organised, and not assembling plays 2weeks before the tournament and expect miracle.Lulu and all his kinsmen should resign for ex/footballer to take controll.

  • FRANK wrote on 13 January, 2010, 11:11

A foreign coach is not the solution to the problem. Siasia can do a better job than any foreign coach in this circumstance. The solution is as follows: Disband the current team. Appoint Siasia as the technical adviser with full authority and responsibility for team selection and tactics. Let him start a new Super Eagles Team with fresh players that can still run. If we appoint a foreign coach that does not know anything about our local football, he will still pick these same old, tired and pensionable foreign based players because of the names of the European clubs that they play for, that is, Everton, Chelsea, Portsmouth etc. We need a new young team and a fresh start and I think Siasia is the man for the job. He can start a new team without any of these old folks. They have tried for this country, let them retire before they mess up their names any further.

  • Sunnyk wrote on 13 January, 2010, 11:36

I don’t why Amodu is disgracing and exposing our mildfeild like this, when you know dat one touch is difficult for Egytian to do and change their pattern by across to the lone striker. I expect Amodu to caution the defensive mildfielder not to move forward in the second half but they commit the same offense in the last minute of first half.
Hoping in the second match, that error will be corrected and perfected.

Amodu should please see how he can bench Yakubu and Nwaneri, they are not physically and psycologically fit to be in this team, talkless maintaining a starting jersey, let’s see how Obafemi can spearhead the attack, Obasi on the right, Nsofor on the left, Osaze playing behind Obafemi, Mikel, Etuhu in the midfield, Taiwo, Apam, Yobo and Odiah in the defence, i believe this combination will give us a good result in this tournament. Forumites, let’s still give Amodu a chance.

People keep saying Nigeria football is on the decline but i refuse to accept that.Almost one and a half years ago,Siasia took some young foreign based player and some relative unknown home base players to the olympics. We all know the result. We defeated all the obtacles that came our ways, even the ones that were coached by the so foreign coaches e.g ivory coast e.t.c.
AMODU,OGUNJOBI,LULU,these are the names of people that are the problem of Nigeria football.AMODU lacks tactical and technical know how.WHAT WE NEED TO DO is to bring in SIASIA and his able assitant Kalika to take over from the MUMU Amodu.Don’t forget a bulk of Amodu players were SIASIA’S BOYS.All he needs to do is to bring back the likes of Adeleye,Ajilore and a few eager home based players especially the ones he has worked with before.Only God knows why MUMU Amodu dropped these players. He never gave them a second chance just because they disappointed in one match.Thank goodness,he didn’t drop Obasi because he was on the verge on dropping him if not Zambia fiendly. He should have invited the Adeleye et al for the same friendly to see if he was wrong in his jugdement before dropping them.I know SIASIA critics will say he failed at his second coming as the coach of a junior team’but don’t he has learn’t his lessons in a big way.Has MUMU Amodu ever coached a Junior team?He should give it a try to see how difficult it is to train young players. He should go and asked COACH STEPHEN KESHI,he was once a coach of the junior team and he failed woefully. Now KESHI is well celebrated all over africa just because he had a second chance to prove himself again.Ask AMODU’s last employer (SHARKS FC) before he got this National Cake Job for his performance,he kept making excuses for his failures. Finally a good coach is not only judged based on the result alone but also on his tactics, ask fabio Capello why he was sacked as the coach of Real Madrid, also ask Scolari why he was shown the exit door at Chelsea. For all the team SIASIA has coached, they have played fantastically well with good tactics and good results that makes the entire Nigerians happy to even forget that they have a sick president including the last youth tournament where we failed to proceed beyond the quater finals,we still enjoyed it.PLEASEEEEEEEEEEE GIVE THIS JOB TO SIASIA HE CAN DO IT.

GRATEST PROBLEM OF AMODU IS PRIDE AND LACK OF CONTROL OVERD THE BIG BOYS COUPLED WITH LAZINEESS AND TECHNICAL ABILITY……HE DROPED THE BEST LEGS THE DEFENCE ( ADELEYE, AJILORE,ADEBAYO) AND ALMOST OBASI JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE SIASIA BOYS !!!. ANY WAY HE HAS SEEN HIS PICTURES NOW, THE ONLY THING THAT PAINS IS OUR RECORDS HE ALLOWS THE EGHPTIAN TO BRAKE BECAUSE EVER SINCE 1970 THAT I WAS MATURED TO BE WARTCHING FOOTBALL NO ANY EGHPTIAN TEAM EVER BEAT NIGERIA….EMERGING WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPEN TO US IF THE BEST 3 TOP PLAYERS THAT DEFEATED CEMEROUN AND DROGBA TEAM WERE TO PLAY YESTERDAY , IT WOULD HAVE BEEN 11-0. EVEN EGHPT SUPRISED THEMSELF……..AMODU CANNOT GIVE WHAT HE DID NOT HAVE ..CAN YOYU IMMERGING AMODU BENCHING MIKEL , YOBO, YAKUBU..HE DARES NOTTO EVEN GIVE ANOTHER PLAYER CAPTAIN BAND WHEN YOBO IS AROUND LET ALONE BENCHING HIM.

YOU ALL CAN SEE THAT ADELEYE WAS GRATLAY MISSED B/C WHILE TAIWO WAS DOING HIS OVERLAPPING WICH WHAT IS EXPECTED FROM MORTHERN N0.2 & 3 NWANERI DID NOT KNOW HOW TO DO COVERING UP….THE ATTACKING THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN INITIATED BY N0. 3 WAS DEAD BY YUSYUF INSTEAD OF CHIDI ODIAH OR ADEBAYO……SIASIA IS THE ONLY NIGERIAN COACH THAT HAS ALL THE ATTRIBUTE TO PERFORME SUCCESSFULLY AT THE WORLD CUP BECAUSE IF SIASIA WERE TO BE APPOINTED TO DAY SOME UNPRODUCTIVE BIG PLAYERS WILL LEAVE WITHOUT BEEN TOLD AND THE REMAINING YOUNG ONES LIKE MIKEL WILL HAVE A CHANGE OF ATTIUTUDE B/C THEY ALL KNOW WITH SISAIA NO ONE IS GUARANTTE OF MAKING TEAM NOT TO TALK OF AUTOMATIC SHIRT…..AND FOR OUR NFF THEY CANNOT IMPOSE YUSUUF MOHAMMED OF THIS WORLD TO SIASIA.

It is very unfortunate that super eagles fell at the hand of pharoes due to technical and tactical indiscipline from our technical crew.Analysing the match, the defence was porous.Taiye Taiwo unecessarily over lapped and failed to return on time. The combination of Yobo and Nnwaneri at the heart of the defence was not the best.Since Adeleye has been schemed out due to intrigues,Apam and Yobo could have been better,at least.Odiah should have been part of the match for his experience and skills instead Yusuf Mohammed. Our mid-field was splendid and okay in first half. The greatest technical blunder Amodu made was removing Mikel substituted with Kanu. Mikel, though failed to live to the expectation but was better than Kanu who could not marshal the midfield due to his age.Attacks- Yakubu was a misfit in that match. He could not even try a shot.Only Obasi performed brillantly.Kalu Uche was below average.SUGESSTED SOLUTIONS. Line Up-Yobo,Odiah,Taiwo,Ayila,Etuhu,Mikel,Obasi,Kalu,Osaze,Martins and Enyeama.Let us be optimistic.Super Eagle can still make it.

i m very happy that the almighty egypt who are current defending champion in African football showed the world that coach Amodu is not competent enough to handle our national team. i will be glad if our so call super eagles will crash out in first round so that amodu will sack together with his assistants . i want to ask this questions to our Nigeria football federation , why did they choose amodu to be our national coach since we all know that amodu did not on his life time be a footballer? i will also like NFF TO TELL NIGERIANS WHERE THESE THREE GREAT PLAYERS ARE THEY, ADELEYE, AJILORE,ADEBAYO. THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING BECAUSE WE HAVE NOT HAVE THE WORLD CUP COACH AS WELL PLAYERS WHO WILL FACE DANGEROUS MESS I. AMODU SHOULD BE SACK NOW.

  • ken gadaffi wrote on 13 January, 2010, 13:37

Those of us supporting the team( Coach and Players) have been dubbed AMODU Supporters. You said it all NIGERIAN are COWARD, they leave the truth and chase shadows. WHY Blame AMODU or the PLAYERS for the woe befalling NIGERIAN FOOTBALL?

I honestly will not join the bandwagon. I remain patriotic to NIGERIA and thus supports whoever is there. Criticism are welcomed, I like most others who have remained faithful to the team never said AMODU is the best or so, The issue we have painstakingly stood by is that we cant chop and change all the time. Since Westerhof left in 1994 until now, all the coaches we have had has always been under pressure and of all those coaches AMODU still posted the best results.

We lost to EGYPT, but the team played well, they conceded cheeky goals, yes great teams do concede when least expected. We cannot kill AMODU or the players for failing to win the Nations cup when our leaders who are suppose to make things happen in the country are looting away our resources. If The venom at which soccer fans have used to castigate AMODU in the last 2 years had been used on the Government, i am sure things would have changed but alas, people leave the govt and face poor AMODU. share act of COWARDICE.

I am still confident that the eagles will bounce back. The draw between MOZ and BENIN has given us a life line. Now no room for errors. SO lets wait and see.

THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH

I am not surprised and it is expected. Amodu packed injured player to cup of Nation and expect any result?. This man is a failure. Please let us accept any outcome. Ojo oba is not helping the matter. He claimed that this was the way they planned for world cup qualifier and they qualified. It is painfull that 160million people will allaow these kind of people in glass house to be leading us. AHHHHHH

It is a very big shame on Nigeria to still remain at this level in football it is very discouraging. It is better not to have a team than to have this kind of unproductive set of footballers. How i wish FIFA could jst place a kind of ban on Nigeria not to participate in any tournament cos we don’t have a football team at all. The whole thing is messed up both the coach and the tchnical crew they have failed.

Assuming the SE camp was a corporate business, the coach and other members of his crew would have been sacked for lack of performance and gross negligence. I would like to point the attention to the following
    1) Our strike force Yak and Oba are both injured. Yak is only getting back to full fitness and Oba is just not fit hence Mumudu waited for medical clearance before naming his team. WOW!!!!!!.
    2) Are there no other NIgerian born strikers in the world. Obasi was to be excluded and he scored.
    3) Mumudu is lazy going out to look for talents even in the home league.
    4) Technically Mumudu is bankrupt, he knows it and so does the NFF, why has nothing been done to rectify this.
The Egyptians squad is made up of mainly home based players and the sure outplayed the so called stars.
    Lulu, Mumudu must GO

I think the problems we are having in Nigeria Super Eagle is mostly caused by Nigeria press,They are the one in surpport of local coach, beleived so much in somebody like Amodu that has nothing to offer Nigeria.Serious i will not be happy if Nigeria quallify from that group becouse that will be wake up for NFF or NFA .

Just take a look at the demostration of supper eagles in the first half of the game, what i saw was a team work. The present coach is physically fit as a coach but not tactically fit as a coach. Fine substituting Sofo for Kalu, but tactically wrong subtitutung Kanu for Mikel the distribution of the ball while Ayabani was out of the game, Apan would have come in to stop Zidan bcos is made to disorganize an opponent plans i wonder why such player remain on the bench. Pls tell Amodu to copy under 17 2009 coach formation. Scoring first then chuck ur defend and ur midfield and play 1 man attack just what we saw from our opponent that gave them 3 points.

We start afresh. If any useless person comes again to mess up our joy , we carry placard this time around. This is their time. Our own time will come in Jesus name . Useless people. You remove Mikel for Kanu !!! You leave Yakubu for 90 minutes. How much bribe have they been given this chap ? It is total madness. I rest my case

Fisrt I want to tell Mumini or whatever he calls himself should start going out with security men else he would be kidnapped and pay dearly so that next time he will not solicit for somebody he knows nothing about, we the south south fans promise him that. No hidden place for u. and for complete sports, I want all Nigeria fans to stop their sales any where they are sold for they are giving us fake news and not only that collect money from players to sing their praises and soliciting for coaches, anybody found selling complete sports should be bitten up and maimed. And for Gbenga who said Nigeria does not have players to win nation cup even if they are been coached by the best coach in the world. But gbenga I tell u give these players to coaches like Arsen Wenger, Alex Ferguson, Jose Morhino, Carlos Anceloti, Guus Hiddink to mention a few. Young was blaming Eyeama for the goals, even great Schunmichael, Petr Czech, Van Der Sar, Ike casillas, Buffon, Shay Given, Khan etc. wouldn’t have saved any of the goals. Capello qualified England for the world cup, no party, no jeep, no 1million for fuel but Mozambique qualified us for the mundial and MUMU AMODU was rewarded for what he did not do. When I said the four defenders we used against France shouldn’t have been changed Mumini opened that his stupid mouth and said the selection Amodu made is ok which we’ve promised him no hidden place for in that Lagos. Can Spainish coach remove Iniesta, Xavi, Fabrigas or Alonso for old Hiero or Raul in such a phisical match? If NFF does not sack Amodu now and replace him with Siasia and Oliseh or better still a good foreign coach, they will be kidnapped one by one or better still their secretaries will poison them. God save 9ja.

Manchester city F.C sacking of Mark Hughes and appointing Mancini is a good example, thank you

The disgraceful defeat that the Super Eagles of Nigeria suffered from the Egyptians wasn’t a surprise at all to most soccer loving Nigerians…The fact still remains that the Eagles lack a good technical coach and a fighting spirit….It’s a known fact that each time the present eagles scores a goal, the opponent is likely to equalize because the Eagles lack a collective fighting spirit and total concentration….
Tunisia’s equalizer in Abuja is a good example of the whole issue..
The key to success is 120% concentration….A team that scores first may end up been a loser at the end of the day if she fails to concentrate……
The coach and the players, most especially the back four should be blamed for this show of shame!!!!!!

Well, its very embarrasing watching a great as Nigeria playing like a school boys,..i spoke with Mikel yesterday after the match and he felt disappointed..We the chelsea players are strongly behind our african players in the likes of drogba, kalou, essien and mikel..

The most painful news there is after some few conversation with mikel he explained how the administration of their team works,..there are some division in that team, especially when the FA impose some players to the coach and it goes contrary to what the players wants..Everyone want to win a cup in that calibre but with the authourity and some tribalistcal imput makes the team looks like a low class team.Even to the extend that the coach start having problem with the captain,..cos their career is at stake..In England, football were running with the correct men in the correct time,FA has nothing to do with the team except when needed..

But i strongly believe that the Nigerians will bounce back and it will be a mistake writting them off now..They has to change their tactics and use the best legs,..I hope they will learn from this…

This is absolutely rubbish that is the reason why Adeleye was not included bcause of the conflict or disagreement between Him and Mikel. Both Adeleye and Mikel are good player don’t break the team into factions which is happen in our politics today. Let us fight, let remove sentiment from moving nation forward.

one of the biggest lessons learnt from other participating teams is that big names don’t play football…..if Gabon could hold beat cameroun with players from the French 3rd division and other far flung places; by playing a disciplined and tactical match for 90mins, then what are the likes of olofinjana, yusuf mohammed, etuhu and Nwanneri doing in that Team u call the Super Eagles?

Amuneke once shouted it loud and clear sometime in ’08, that we cant all play for Barcelona or Chelsea at a time, hence the need to look for Eagles’ materials from around other leagues in the world.

I rest my case for now….’am just too upset to type….back to you Mumuni.

Everything has been said already. We need a good coach and all the current players should all be dropped with the exception of Obasi, Osaze & Eneramo. We need to look @ new players from our u-17 & 20. If this is not done, then Nigeria is not yet serious about football yet.
