Some former national team players popularly called ex-internationals have jointly called on the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF to name coach Samson Siasia as the new Super Eagles coach.
This call followed the poor performance of the Super Eagles under the control of coach Lars Lagerback at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
In a separate interviews, the ex-internationals believed that Siasia who led Nigeria to the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship in Holland and 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing respectively is the perfect man for the hot seat.
Speaking to Complete Sports on Wednesday, former Ajax of Amsterdam star, Tijani Babangida said if the present board of the NFF is really ready to reposition Nigeria football, it should not delay in naming Siasia as the new Eagles coach.
“I don’t know why people keep asking who should be given the Super Eagles job when we have somebody who has been tested to handle the job without any problem,” begins Tijani Babangida.
“Siasia has played this game to the highest level, he has attended a coaching school in the US and he has also proved what he can do, so we have to put sentiment apart and go for the man that has everything needed to succeed in this job.
“We are all ready to support him with whatever he need to succeed as the Super Eagles coach. NFF should put politics aside and face how our football can grow. I have played this game before, but I am not happy with the state of Nigeria football today.
“We all know what happened in South Africa and what we lost in terms of money, energy and time, so Siasia is the perfect man for this job.
Also calling on the football house to immediately endorse Samson Siasia as the Super Eagles coach was Bright Omokaro.
“Siasia is like a brother to me because of the professionalism and character I saw in him. Siasia has done so well for Nigeria, he has played this game to the World Cup level which not many players can boast of and he has also coached our under aged players to big tournaments where he excelled,” says Omokaro.
“Maradona led Argentina to the last World Cup without attending any coaching school, yet they are happy because he has played in the World Cup before, it was a honour which should also be given to Siasia.
“He has the technical ability to lead the Super Eagles and he should be given the job,” he submitted.
Former Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer, Ike Shorumu was not also left out from the list of ex-internationals who strongly believe that coach Samson Siasia is the real man for the job.
“NFF has the final decision to make but as an ex-footballer, I think Siasia is a good coach and which he has proved. If he is given the job today, we will all rally round him to make sure he succeed,” says the former 3SC goalie.
“One sure thing which nobody can argue is that Siasia is a competent coach anytime anyday.”
Thompson Oliha is also confident that the Bayelsa born soccer tactician will not fail if he is given the Super Eagles job, while insisting that hiring coach from abroad will not help Nigeria football to grow.
“Everybody is talking or showing interest in Nigeria football because of what we did in 1994.
“Today, lots of things have changed, we are

Much as i believe that siasia is the best candidate for the job,He should be carefull in signing any contract. He must act like a proffessional, insisting on his own assistant and there should be clause for what he will get if the contract is terminated and what he will pay NFF should he work away.
Siasia is very much prone to FAIL with the Super Eagles because of assumptions.U will see. The right coach is Obuh. Unassuming, strategist, good domestic league experience, fine selection and blending of players. When you consider his short, meteoric performance with those home boys ,he is difficult to ignore. All these chaps are screaming about Siasia now, BUT Siasia is very DIVISIVE.Ask him about this, when he played in Flash Flamengeos etc.
Obuh is TASK ORIENTED,with vision and adjusts competently. Siasia’s team at the under 20 in Egypt, was truly his first major selection and his responses/adjustments during the course of the competition, REVEALED a lot of defects in strategic thinking/planning. WE SHALL HOPEFULLY BE AROUND TO SEE HIS PERFORMANCE IF SELECTED. Forget all these other chaps like Omokaro,Babangida,Shorunmu
whoever is handling the super eagles be it siasia or obuh should not forget the legacies of Yemi Tellah let him give those boys a chance. in any case i prefer siasia.
Sia1 is the perfect man for the Eagles at the moment, even Lars said it himself by saying that if he was to come back to take the job,the only coach he can work with in Nigeria will be Sia1 as he sees him as the best coach Nigeria has at the moment….tell me how many of our local coaches go for refreshers courses if not Sia1.This guy knows the basics of football so lets give him the chance please.
Lars is a failure and he will fail again with Siasia, if he comes back. Lars is stubborn, vindictive and divisive just like Siasia. Ask Siasia again, why he FAILED to include Chrisantus and Udoh in his Egypt under 20 squad which failed and then ask Lars why he could not RISE above his fall out with Osaze Odemwinge in the interest of Nigeria and play him adequately in South Africa. I tell you seriously both these men suffer from EGOMANIA and that will be their waterloo
i just don’t underestand why some people are just stupid like DUKe why should one see white and try calling it red .the truth may be painful but let’ s be frank and give the job to Samson Siasia his a man of discipline with wisdom and technics. in Siasia we stand for the truth and in others we stand for lies and down fall .
Let Duke go and watch a replay of Siasia guys in Egypt he will see clearly that the team was just unlucky but did played very well, with some inclusion like Martins and some serious minded professionals that team will beat Ghana who happened to be the best team in Africa now. good luck Siasia and Nigeria
if you say siasia should take up the job, fine. But l want us to look at what is going on now wt falconet they are superb. look for credible & well experience coach to take up the job. l suggest coach Tunde disu & Siasia to work out the job
i don’t think dat duke guy is a nigerian,i just wonder what planet he is from,y cant a spade be called a spade for once.i think if the whole nation should come together n be transparent in voting for a super eagles coach siasia will get at least 90%.pls dat guy should be given the job and let everybody go to sleep n watch him do his thing
