Nigeria national boxing coach Tony Konyegwachie, has lamented the late preparation towards next month's African Boxing Championship in Cameroon which serves as qualifiers for the Olympic Games, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The African Boxing Championship will run from 8th to 20th of March, 2016.
While speaking to Completesportsnigeria.com, Konyegwachie said that the country's boxers were already behind schedule.
"We are fighting to go for Olympics qualifiers in Cameroon. We should have been in camp since and it's very late now because the competition holds from March 8 to March to. We are supposed to be at least two months in camp ahead of the competition.
"And another problem is that we don't have facilities, so we have to manage with what we have. And like I said, it's very late now, even though the boxers are expected to start coming to camp this weekend.
It can be recalled that Nigerian boxers have failed to pick a single medal in the last four Olympics (Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and London 2012).
The last time Nigeria won a medal at the Olympics was in Atlanta 1996, when Duncan Dokiware won a bronze.
