Manchester United defeated Liverpool 1-0 in Sunday’s Premier League clash at Anfield.
The only goal of the game was scored by Wayne Rooney who hit a fine volley past Simon Mignolet late in the match.
Roberto Firmino had Liverpool’s first chance of the game but his shot went inches off target.
James Milner was then fed with a cross-field pass from Firmino but he shot wide.
Liverpool skipper, Jordan Henderson, came close after a well worked move but his shot slid wide of the far post.
With three minutes remainingin the first half, Ashley Young went off injured and was replaced by Borthwick-Jackson.
In the 49th minute, Emre Can almost opened the scoring but his effort was turned around the post by David De Gea.
Anthony Martial had United’s first real chance but his left-foot strike went whiskers off the post.
But in the 78th minute, Rooney put United in front after lashing on to Maroune Fellaini’s initial header which came off the bar.
United move to fifth in the league table, while Liverpool occupy the ninth position.
