Europa League: Liverpool Hold Augsburg As Fatai’s Sparta Pip Krasnodar

Liverpool held Augsburg to a 0-0 draw in the first leg of their round of 32 clash of the Europa League.

Both teams come close on several occasions but failed to hit target.

In the third minute, Raul Bobadilla had the first chance for Augsburg but shot over the bar.

Roberto Firmino had Liverpool’s first chance on eight minutes but his tame shot was easily stopped by Marwin Hitz in goal for Augsburg.

In the 13th minute, Daniel Sturridge’s header was well saved by Hitz.

Sturridge was presented with another chance on 22 minutes when he broke free, only to be stopped by Augsburg defence.

With 10 minutes left, Sturridge had room to run clear and aim at goal, but his effort took a deflection and went for a corner.

On the dot of 45 minutes, Alexander Esswein drove into Liverpool’s area and aimed at Simon Mignolet who had no problem dealing with the danger.

Seven minutes into the second half, Philippe Coutinho flicked his effort wide of the near post following a cross from Alberto Moreno.

Moreno took a shot in the 71 minutes which was saved by Hitz.

Dominik Khor then saw his low shot well saved by Mignolet in the 77th minute.

And with four minutes left, Ji Dong-Won’s shot hit the post.

Also on Thursday Kehinde Fatai’s Sparta Prague, will take a slim 1-0 advantage to Russia to face Krasnodar in the return leg of their round of 32 Europa League tie.

Lukas Julis’ 64th minute goal was enough to give Sparta Prague the win.

Fatai, who was on from the start, later made way for Petr Jiracek with a minute left to play.

Sparta Prague will travel to Russia for the return leg next Thursday.
