Former Super Eagles coach Lars Lagerback has hailed Nigeria U-23s team spirit for defying the odds to beat Japan 5-4 in their opening game of the Men’s Olympic Football Tournament Rio 2016 in Manaus on Friday.
Lagerback, who took Nigeria to the FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa, was also quick to warn Sweden’s U-23 side not to underrate the Nigerians when they take on the African champions on Sunday.
Sweden were forced to a 2-2 draw in their opening game against Colombia.
“I do not like to talk about entertaining football, but this was entertaining football. That was a fantastic game from the Nigerian team. Not every day you get to see nine goals in a match,” Lagerback told Visat Channel after Nigeria’s 5-4 victory over Japan.

The Euro 2016 Iceland coach who made history when his side dumped out England in the second round at the European Championship in France also added that four-goal hero Oghenekaro Etebo must be stopped if the young Swedes are to advance to the next round.
“He’s (Oghenekaro Etebo) got incredible speed and energy and he must be watched,” Lagerback added.
