5 Major Glo Premier League Talking Points

By Adeboye Amosu:

The Nigeria Professional Football League has generated a great deal of excitement this season as it grows from strength to strength.
Completesportsnigeria.com reviews the season so far and presents the major talking points.

1 Mass sacking of coaches

No fewer than five coaches have already lost their jobs this season with the league just 15 weeks old. It is an usual scenario compared to what obtains in other climes.
Vastly travelled and experienced tactician Solomon Ogbeide was the first casualty as he was  sacked by Bayelsa United in the early part of the season.
He was later joined in the labour market by Franklyn Howard (3SC), Kelechi Emeteole (Rangers), Erasmus Onu (Heartland) and recently Mitko Dobrev (IfeanyiUbah).

2 Wikki Tourists impressive away form

The league new entrants have no doubt proved they have what it takes to flex muscles with the big boys on the domestic scene.
The side coached by Abdu Makaiba have won three games on the road in this campaign, equalling the record set by Kwara United in 2013.

3 Garden City clubs' poor form

Sharks and Dolphins, two household names who have made tremendous impact on the local scene in recent times, have struggled to impress this season and as things stand at the moment, both sides look to be heading for the drop.
Sharks currently sit in 20th position on the log with Dolphins slightly above them in 19th.

4 3SC, Rangers, Heartland resurgence under new coaches

One remarkable talking point we have seen in the league this season is the total turnaround in the performance of some teams who have sacked their erstwhile handlers.
3SC are unbeaten in five games under Gbenga Ogunbote, while Rangers have lost once in five games since Imama Amapakabo stepped in as interim technical adviser of the side after the sacking of Kelechi Emeteole.
The major highlight of Imama's reign was the 1-0 road trip win against Warri Wolves few weeks ago.
Heartland have moved up on the ladder since little known gaffer Bethel Orji took over from Erasmus Onuh.
The Naze Millionaires are now fifth on the Glo Premier League log and look good  to challenge for a continental ticket this season.

5 Giwa, Wikki Tourists show class

High-flying Giwa FC of Jos who are playing in their second season in the top flight have proved a tough nut to crack for the big teams names.
Their six-game unbeaten streak was recently halted by champions Kano Pillars but they have picked five points out of a possible nine since that setback.
It is the same story for Wikki who topped the table last weekend but relinquished the position to Sunshine Stars after they were held at home by Giwa on Wednesday.
