The Football Association of Zambia have sacked George Lwandamina and confirmed the appointment of Wedson Nyirenda as the new head coach of the Chipolopolo ahead of their Russia 2018 World Cup qualifying fixture against Nigeria, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Lwandamina was sacked following the failure of the Chipolopolo to qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in Gabon in a relatively easy group that had Guinea Bissau, Kenya and Congo.
Nyirenda beat South African coach Gordon Igesund who was earlier touted as the favourite to the job.
The former Zanaco Football Club head coach was appointed as the number two man to Lwandamina in July.
He once handled Mozambican side Feroviaro de Beira and Green Buffaloes of Zambia.
His first game in charge of the Chipolopolo will be against the Super Eagles of Nigeria on Ocotber 9 in Ndola.
