Nigeria's basketball star, Shane Lawal has tasked the Nigerian Basketball Federation to resolve the issue of players' insurance before any major tournament, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Ben Uzoh and Al Farouq Aminu were two players who refused to represent the national team at the Rio 2016 Olympics in Brazil after their insurance issue were unresolved.
And Lawal whose first Olympic appearance was cut short by a patellar tendon injury urged individuals the NBBF board to channel their vested interest in making basketball bigger in Nigeria.
"If you look at our team with Farouq and look at what happened in Rio, why can't we be top 10 in the world?," Lawal said in an interview with FIBA.com.
"We've got a lot of guys with vested interests in making basketball bigger not just in Nigeria, but in Africa. It would be awesome
"And it's no disrespect to them."
Lawal who is still recuperating from the injury he copped at the Olympics hopes to see his city of birth, Lagos host the 19th edition of the FIBA Basketball World Cup in 2023.
"Why not?," he said to FIBA.com. "It's a great city. I want the World Cup in Lagos. 2023! Let's make it happen!"Uncover how I make $750 weekly on Facebook using never been revealed Social Media tools.
