Rohr Invites Moses, Ogu, Etebo, Alampasu, Mikel, Iheanacho For Algeria Clash

Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has called up captain Mikel Obi, assistant captain Ahmed Musa, goalkeeper Carl Ikeme and 21 others for next month’s 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against the Fennecs of Algeria in Uyo, the Nigeria Football Federation announced on Saturday night.

While he has retained the bulk of the squad that defeated Zambia 2-1 in Ndola earlier this month to establish Nigeria at the top of Group B of the African race, the Franco-German has also beefed up the squad with in-form Hapoel Be’er Sheva midfielder John Ogu and Nigeria’s top scorer at the Olympic Men’s Football Tournament in Brazil, Oghenekaro Etebo.

Completesportsnigeria.com reported on Friday that Ogu and Etebo would be in the squad.

Germany-based defender Leon Balogun, back from injury, also returns while English Premier League stars Victor Moses and Odion Ighalo are also called.

Isaac Success, who is still nursing an injury, is excluded.

Former junior international goalkeeper Dele Alampasu and Dutch-based defender Tyrone Ebuehi are also invited.

IfeanyiUbah goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa is the only home-based player in the squad.

Players are expected to start arriving at the team’s Bolton White Apartment in Abuja on Sunday, 6 November.

The Super Eagles welcome the Fennecs at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Saturday, 12 November.

D notable changes needed are our full backs,he should try Omeruo @ right back & Moses should always boulevard for him

  3. our full backs are ok.. Let leon Balogun and Ekong play d Nigeria vs Algeria game.. Balogun can hide Mahrez in d pitch

  4. Rhor has a good team, except that he needs to start Moses on the left and Ogu in defensive midfield-to play the Makelele role, with Musa rampaging on the right. Before now the defensive midfield was absent and that created a lot of pressure on the defence, leaving the goalkeeper exposed most times,as experienced in Zambia.
