Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola insists Sergio Aguero is still thr club’s first choice striker, with Nigeria youngster Kelechi Iheanacho an understudy still learning the ropes, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Aguero was dropped to the bench for the Champions League clash at Barcelona, but the Argentine bagged a brace against West Brom on Saturday. He has 13 goals in all competitions this season.
On his part, Iheanacho has scored 11 Premier League goals from limited playing time since his breakthrough last season, and Guardiola rates him highly.
“Sergio is a special player,” Guardiola said in his post-match reaction after the 4-0 win over West Brom which ended a six-game winless streak.
“We need him a lot and when he is in that behaviour and in that hunger he is decisive. Sergio is also so important for us because we don’t have too many strikers. Kelechi [Iheanacho] is a young player and has huge talent, but has a lot to learn.
“Now is time to let me enjoy this game and we have time tomorrow to explain [about Barcelona].
“I know how important it is against the best but now it’s time, two hours, to enjoy this victory. It’s better to arrive to the next game with a win rather than a defeat.”
