By Nurudeen Obalola in Uyo:
Algeria had a good feel of the Godswill Akpabio Stadium pitch on Friday ahead of the Russia 2018 World Cup qualifier against the Super Eagles here in Uyo.
The North Africans trained at the mainbowl, at around the same time as the Eagles, who used the practice pitch.
Algeria’s training ended under the floodlights around 7pm, with a session involving the players using only one half of the field.
The playing surface was recently improved at the request of the Nigeria Football Federation and it looked lush and in good shape at close quarters.
The apparently paranoid Algerians, who arrived in Nigeria with their own foodstuffs and water, were driven out of the stadium around 7.30pm in a sparkling luxury bus, and they have had nothing to complain about since their arrival on Thursday.
Meanwhile, one of the players on Fennecs’ long injury list, Napoli’s Faouzi Ghoulam, has recovered and has trained with the team.
Algeria must avoid defeat on Saturday to prevent the Super Eagles from opening a five-point lead after just games in African qualifying Group B.
