Nigerian trio Moses Simon, Anderson Esiti and Samuel Kalu were in action for Gent who defeated Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 in Belgium in the first leg round 32 of their Europa League clash on Thursday, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The only goal of the game was scored by Jeremy Perbet on 59 minutes.
Esiti played the full 90 minutes, while Kalu replaced Simon in the 74th minute.
In the Netherlands, Nigerian forward Fred Friday featured for AZ Alkmaar who lost 4-1 at home to Olympique Lyon.
A goal each from Lucas Tousart (26 minutes), Jordan Ferri (90th minute) and a brace from Alexandre Lacazette (45th and 57th minutes) secured a comfortable first leg win for the French Ligue 1 side.
Friday was introduced in the 65th minute for Wout Weghorst.
In Greece, Nigeria forward Brown Ideye did not even make Olympiakos bench as they were held to a 0-0 draw home by Turkish club Osmanlispor.
Also Aminu Umar did not make Osmanlispor’s squad for the game.
In other first leg results, FC Rostov thrashed Sparta Prague 4-0, Fiorentina stunned Monchengladbach 1-0 in Germany, Ludogorets lost 2-1 at home to Copenhagen, Shakhtar Donetsk edged hosts Celta Vigo 1-0 and Genk went away and held Astra Giurgiu 2-2.
The second legs of the round 32 of the Europa League is next week Thursday.
