By James Agberebi:
Nigerian boxers to the 11th All Africa Games will leave Lagos for Abuja on Thursday 27th August, before heading to Brazzaville after being hosted by President Buhari.
This was revealed to completesportsnigeria.com by the head coach of the team, Tony Konyegwachi.
According to Konyegwachi, Nigeria President, Muhammadu Buhari, is expected to host the team and other athletes in other sports before they fly out on Saturday 29th August. The President is expected to give his blessing to Team Nigeria before their departure to Brazzavile for the Games.
“We will travel to Abuja before leaving for Congo because the President is expected to host us and other athletes taking part in other sports. So we will head to Abuja on Thursday 27th August and after meeting with the president, we will take off on Saturday 29th August,” Konyegwachi told completesportsnigeria.com.
Speaking further, Kaonyegwachi said two changes were made in the boxing team.
“We made two changes in the team. The 75kg will now be contested by Kehinde Ademuyiwa while, Taiwo Abiodun will feature in the 52kg.
“The reason was because we gave both Ademuyiwa and Abiodun the opportunity to show what they can do and they did very well. The first list that was released then was inconclusive. The boxers initially in the weight category depreciated, so that’s why we changed them.”
