By Sab Osuji In Brazzaville:
Nigeria men’s basketball Team, D’Tigers, Friday morning served out a dose of what should be expected of them at the on-going 11th All Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville.

The reigning Afrobasketball champions opened their games with a 76-59 triumph over their Malian opponents at the Massamba Stadium, Makelele. Nigerian women, D’Tigress, had beaten Mali narrowly earlier.

The Nigerian men showed dominance from start to finish, as the near capacity crowd were kept on their toes.

D’Tigers lived up to their intimidating names as powehouses of the dunking and slamming game in Africa the manner they rolled over their West African foes in the game.

D’Tigers coach, Sani Ahmed, said the result was a good beginning for his team but emphasised that the Malians gave them a good fight.

“It was a good start for us but of course, the Malians gave a good account of themselves.

“Yes, it was a good test for us because every team that came here wants to win,” Ahmed told completesportsnigeria.com.
Team Nigeria women’s Basketball team, D’Tigress, also began their All Africa Games campaign on high with a hard fought 70-69 win over Mali on Wednesday.

The D’Tigress were dominant in the first quarter leading with a wide margin of 14-6.

But the Malians came back stronger in the second quarter to draw level, leaving the game wide open until the Nigerian girls dug deep into their vault of experience to take the game in the last quarter.
