Head coach of the Super Falcons, Chris Danjuma, says his girls will take the games as they come in the on-going 2015 All Africa Games women’s football event.
Danjuma spoke after his team’s 5-1 thrashing of hosts, Congo Brazzaville, in the opening group match at Makelekele Sports Stadium on Sunday.
Desire Oparanozie scored four goals with Love Chinasa grabbing the fifth late in the game to give the African champions a comfortable win.
“We did not underrate the Congolese, we know African football especially at the women level has improved,” he told completesportsnigeria.com.
“You saw that at a stage during the game, the Congolese took the battle to us so we knew they would come out fighting”, Danjuma said.
“It’s one step at a time, we’ll continue to work hard to improve, taking the games one at a time.”
He disclosed that playing the host country in a competition like this is not easy but revealed that he drew experience from playing the host nation in the last FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada.
“We’re not new to playing against a host nation in big tournaments like this we did it at the last World Cup in Canada so this was no exception.
“Of course, it spurs you on especially when you win, to aspire for the bigger things.
“As for us here, the target is the gold medal, it is also a part of our preparation for the Olympic Games.
“Like I said, we are taking it one step at a time, Tanzania is our next game and we are looking forward to it.”Jiji.ng the cheapest online shopping in Nigeria
