Three Nigerian athletes on Monday gave hope for gold medals for the country in athletics by reaching the finals of their 100m T11 (physically challenged) events.
Leading the pack in the women’s category is Lovina Onyegbule who dusted her challengers Beauty Fiator of Ghana and Ladja Ishitile of Namibia in the semi-final decided at the athletics tracks of Kintele Sports Stadium.
She came first in a time of 6.11 secs.
Also, Taiwo Suleiman who ran on lane six like Onyegbule breasted the tape in a time of 13.47 secs to finish first ahead of her Cameroonian and Angolan opponents to seal her place in the final.
In the men’s 100m T11 event, Olusegun Rotawo came first in his heat with a time of 11.62 secs.
The finals are expected to come up on Tuesday at the athletics tracks of the Kintele Sports Sports Stadium, Congo Brazzaville.
Meanwhile, completesportsnigeria.com reports that athletics event entered its day two on Monday and will continue until Saturday when the 11th All Africa Games will be brought to a fitting close.
