Former Nigeria international Mutiu Adepoju has hailed the Super Eagles’ 1-1 draw against South Africa in Sunday’s international friendly in Nelspruit.
Ahmed Musa put the Eagles in the lead on 85 minutes against the run of play, but a Bongani Zungu’s 94th minute strike drew the South Africans level.
In a chat with completesportsnigeria.com, Adepoju clamoured for more international friendly matches for the Eagles.
“Playing a draw against South Africa, I think was a better result. Compared to the loss they suffered against Uganda in their last game right here in Nigeria a few days ago, I think the draw is not a bad result.
“And I think we need to have more friendly matches and also players who are willing to play for the country should be invited, then we can take it up from there.”
Adepoju stated further that the idea of inviting players from the junior national teams to the Super Eagles right away should be discarded for now.
“We should take everything step by step. The players in the junior team have an assignment at hand and we should allow them to concentrate on their assignment and not cause a kind of distraction,” Adepoju advised.
The Eagles had earlier lost 1-0 to Uganda at the Akwa Ibom International Stadium in Uyo.
