Adepoju: Why Oliseh Played Four Strikers Against Swaziland

By Sab Osuji:

Former Nigeria midfielder, Mutiu Adepoju, has defended the tactics adopted by Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, in Friday’s goalless draw against Swaziland in Somhlolo in a FIFA World Cup qualifier.

Adepoju who is currently the Administrator of the Kwara Football Academy said the idea of fielding four strikers in the second half of the match was borne out of coach Oliseh’s desire to get the goals but regretted that unfortunately, the goals refused to come.

“I was present at the match in Swaziland. The Super Eagles started the game with a 4-2- 3-1 formation and created a lot of scoring opportunities in the first half but unfortunately they missed all the chances,” the former Super Eagles midfielder told

“But in the second half, Oliseh altered the formation when he introduced Kelechi Iheanacho and later pulled out Mikel and replaced him with Obafemi Martins.

“This meant the Super Eagles had four strikers all in the midfield as the search for goals intensified.”

The return leg match of the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier will be decided inside the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt on Tuesday and Adepoju believes the Super Eagles still have the chance to wrap up the game.

“Yes, I think they still have the chance to win. They did well in Swaziland and I believe they will win in the return leg match come Tuesday,” he stated. the cheapest online shopping in Nigeria.
