Manchester City began their new English Premier League season with a 2-0 win away to promoted Brighton Hove Albion on Saturday.
A second half goal from Sergio Aguero and an own goal from Lewis Dunk earned the Citizens a hard-fought win at the Amex Stadium.
City handed starting roles to their two new full-backs Kyle Walker and Danilo in the encounter but it was the newly promoted side that threatened first with a tame shot after two minutes.
The visitors responded with Gabriel Jesus, David Silva and Aguero all coming close to scoring. In the 25th minute, Kevin De Bruyne's 25-yard free kick was saved by goalkeeper Mathew Ryan, who was tested for the first time.
Four minutes later, Jesus' goal was disallowed for a deliberate handball after he was clattered by Ryan in the build-up. Ryan was called into action again in the 35th minute, when Aguero's delightful chip into the box for Jesus to head was saved as the first half ended goalless.
Aguero eventually broke the deadlock in the 70th minute, latching on to a pass from Sliva to slot home past Ryan. Dunk's own goal seven minutes later following pressure from Jesus made it 2-0 for Pep Guardiola's side.Watch The Premier League Live!! with EXPRESSVPN the #1 Trusted Name in VPN
