Nigeria's women's U-17 national football team assistant coach, Ann Agumau-Chiejine is confident the team will go past South Africa in their last round of the qualifiers for the 2016 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Jordan, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The Flamingoes begin camping today (Sunday, February 7) in Abuja ahead of the crucial battle against the South Africans following a comprehensive 9-0 aggregate win over two legs against Namibia in the previous round.
The Flamingoes will host their South African counterparts in the weekend of March 11 to March 13 in Abuja. The return leg will hold between March 25 and March 27, with the winners over two legs automatically going through to the World Cup.
Ann Agumanu-Chiejine, an assistant to Bala Nkiyu, also told Completesportsnigeria.com that the players who prosecuted the two legged encounters against Namibia are automatically eligible to the team's camping ahead of the final round qualifier against South Africa.
The team will stay at the Serob Legacy Hotel in Abuja for their preparations ahead of the games against South Africa.
"The players who played in the last round of qualifiers are all expected to be in camp. For now, I can't say if there will be new players called in before March," Ann Agumanu-Chiejine, a former Nigeria women national team captain and goalkeeper told Completesportsnigeria.com.
"The standard of women's football in South Africa is improving, but we are confident that they will not stop us from qualifying for the World Cup.
"And despite our comprehensive wins against Namibia, we remain focused. Surely, we know South Africa will be a stronger side than Namibia but we are working hard and will be ready for them.."
The 2016 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup will hold from September 30 to October 21 in Jordan.
The Flamingoes have never failed to qualify for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup finals since the event debuted in New Zealand in 2008.
