Camping for Taekwondoists is expected to open in Abuja this week in preparation for the 11th All Africa Games, scheduled for September 4-19 2015 in Brazzaville, Congo.
This was revealed to Completesportsnigeria.com by the Secretary General of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation, Sunny Obot.
According to Obot, 16 taekwondoist (eight men and eight women) will make the final list, and they will be accompanied to the games by three coaches, the federation’s secretary and the president, George Ashiru.
“The taekwondoists are expected to commence camping this week in Abuja. And after spending some time in camp, the final 16 who will comprise eight men and eight women, will be selected for the All Africa Games.
“Five coaches will be in camp also but three of the coaches, along with the secretary and the president, Grand Master George Ashiru, will be in Brazzaville with the taekwondoists.
Obot also revealed that 2008 Beijing Olympic bronze medallist, Chika Chukwumerije, will not be at the games.
“Chika Chukwumerije will not be in Brazzaville because he wants to give others the opportunity to show what they can do for Nigeria.
“But he will be taking part in the Grand Prix, which serves as qualifiers for next year’s Olympic Games. It is a qualifier for taekwondoists who are among the top 30 in their different weight categories, and it will take place in Russia this month.
