Home Eagles skipper, Chima Akas, has maintained that Nigeria’s chances of progressing to the knockout stage of 2016 CHAN is not hanging by the thread after 1-1 draw with Tunisia on Friday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Nigeria was lucky to come away with a point as Carthage Eagles dominated the match and had a goal disallowed late in the first half. But Super Eagles skipper, Akas, played down Nigeria’s lucky tag saying they gave a good account of themselves and will be happy with a draw.
According to him, Nigeria will build on the lesson leant in Friday’s game, saying that the Super Eagles played against an experienced and taller opponents, thus making it difficult to win aerial tussles during the match.
Akas expressed confidence in the ability of the coach Sunday Oliseh-led coaching crew to come up with a formation to ensure Nigeria win their next game against The Syli Stars of Guinea in Ribavu on Tuesday.
“We did our best to win but I must admit it was a difficult game for us though. It was better we had a draw rather than losing the match," Akas said.
“ I believe we still have a good chance of qualifying and what is required now is to go back and work harder before our next game.."
Nigeria still occupy the top spot in the group with four points.
