Homes Eagles defender, Chima Akas, says the team is well on course to secure a place in next year’s African Nations Championship following a hard fought 2-0 home win against Burkina Faso in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Completesportsnigeria.com can report.
The Eagles won the tie 2-0 courtesy of goals by Bature Yaro and Gbolahan Salami with the Stallions defending deep for most part of the game.
The Nigerians also fluffed a number of opportunities that could have made the result more convincing.
However, the Sharks defender who captain his side in the game said they will complete the job when they confront the Burkinabes in the second leg in Ouagadougou next weekend.
“We are happy with the win against Burkina Faso even though we came into game with the intention of scoring more goals,” the former Shooting Stars player told Completesportsnigeria.com.
“Now we are in a good position to qualify for the tournament which is good for us.
“We know they will fight hard to overturn the deficit in the return leg, but we will make it difficult for them.
“It’s important that we qualify for the competition and we are almost there now.”
