Nigeria canoeist Johny Akinyemi is excited at the arrival of his new Olympic boat, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Akinyemi, who will represent Nigeria at the Rio Olympics for a second straight time in the canoe slalom/kayak event at the Rio 2016 Olympics, posted a picture of his boat on Twitter on Wednesday.
The boat Completesportsnigeria.com gathered cost over £2000 from the Gala Sport in Dublin.
“I got a discount from sponsor Cool Blue Canoes. It’s a great boat, of course it’s green white green,” Akinyemi told Completesportsnigeria.com.
“The new boat was sponsored with a big discount and the Nigeria Canoe Federation paid the rest, which is good.”
Akinyemi also called for support from the National Sports Commission ahead of the Olympics.
“I hope the sports commission will be supportive when preparations get into the final phase,” he told Completesportsnigeria.com.
Akinyemi who has also been training personally in London for over two weeks was also happy to be back in his base in Warrington.
“So excited my new Olympic boat has arrived. This is the one I’m taking to Rio,” tweeted Akinyemi, who was also recently honoured in Warrington, England, where he was born.
“Great to be back home and training in the Warrington after being away training in London for two week.”
