Akwa United beat Nasarawa United in the Glo Premier League for the first time in six years edging out the Solid Miners 2-0 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Friday.
Goals from Aniekpeno Udoh and Yusuf Adio helped the Promise Keepers secure the win.
The away side went into the game full of confidence after winning their last two games and having a proud record against the hosts.
But it was Akwa United who dominated the opening exchanges and were rewarded in the 36th minute when Udoh nodded the ball home.
Nasarawa United fought hard to get back on level terms afterwards, but Yusuf Adio put the game beyond them when he slotted the ball into the net in the 71st minute.
The win lifted Akwa United to 14th position on the log which also improved their chances of escaping the drop.
Nasarawa United now face a difficult battle to secure a continental ticket following the defeat.
