Federation Cup winners Akwa United will retain only 18 of their old players for the 2015/2016 Glo Premier League season as well as their campaign in the CAF Confederation Cup, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Top on the list of the players that will be retained by the club are the likes of Abdulafeez Awakan, Namso Edo, Friday Ubong, Aniekpeno Udoh and a host of other players who distinguished themselves in the league last season.
The Promise Keepers have been widely criticised for not holding on to their best players in the past.
Talented players like Mfon Udoh and Ezekiel Bassey are some of the players they have sold off in recent seasons.
Udoh scored 16 goals for the club in the 2012/2013 season before moving on to join Enyimba the next season where he banged in 23 goals, the highest mark by any individual in a single season in the Glo Premier League.
The Uyo-based outfit had to wait until the final game of the season to maintain their top flight status after beating Lobi Stars 1-0 in their final game of the campaign.
