Akwa United’s Awakan Targets African Glory After Fed Cup Triumph

By Adeboye Amosu:

Akwa United midfielder, Abdulafeez Awakan, is confident the side can make a  mark in the CAF Confederation Cup following their success in the Federation Cup, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

The Promise Keepers who barely escaped the drop in the recently concluded 2014/2015 Glo Premier League season will compete on the continent for the first time after their  2-1 win against Lobi Stars at the Teslim Balogun Stadium on Sunday.

Despite their inexperience on the continent, Awakan  who was voted the most valuable player in the competition, is adamant they can compete against the best clubs in Africa.

"It's going to be a tough task for us as this is the first time we will be playing on the continent," he told Completesportsnigeria.com.

"But I think we can cope with the challenge as we have an experienced coach who can guide us through.

"In terms of playing personnel the quality is there too, but I hope  we add some more experienced and talented players to add more depth to the squad."
