Erstwhile Super Eagles forward, Benedict Akwuegbu, believes Mikel Obi and Victor Moses are still relevant in the team despite their omission from the list of players that will prosecute next month’s 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifying tie against Tanzania.
The duo alongside Watford of England forward, Jude Ighalo, were the notable high-profile stars excluded from the list of overseas-based players released by new Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh recently.
Despite their omission, the former Austria-based star insisted they are still part of the team and is confident they will be part of the squad in subsequent games.
“Sunday has made his choice on the players he wants to use for the game against Tanzania and I don’t think there should be an argument over that,” Akwuegbu told completesportsnigeria.com from his base in Austria.
“He is the head coach of the side and has the responsibility to invite players he believes are good enough to represent the country at any time.
“For Mikel and Moses, I believe they are two quality players who still have what it takes to make the team better.”
The Super Eagles will take on Tanzania on September 5 at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
