–Garrido accuses Cuper of depleting his club with players call up
Egypt’s national team coach Hector Cuper could be set for a collision course with the chief coach of top Egyptian club Al Ahly, Juan Carlos Garrido.
Garrido has criticised Egypt’s national team coach Héctor Cúper for his decision to call up the national team’s local players for a training camp ahead of the 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifying matches which kicks off in June 2015 and spoke about Ahly’s title chances, through his official website.
Egypt has been grouped along with the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Chad and Tanzania in Group G of the 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
“Fourteen of my players have been called up to the first (senior) and olympic national teams; this puts us in a very dangerous situation,” Garrido said.
“This is not a FIFA- sanctioned time to call up players, this does not happen elsewhere around the world.”
Garrido also stressed his club’s CAF Champions League prospects could be hampered by the latest development.
“We have a very tight schedule and many matches to undergo. I don’t know if we can get ready for the next [league] match in time, and I know for sure that we can’t get ready for our next CAF Champions League match,” he then added.
“This hurts us, the players are working extremely hard to get through these difficult times,” he concluded.
Al Ahly are in a difficult position in the league, after their draw against rivals Ismaily. The continent’s best club of the last century are currently third, with 40 points from 21 matches.
