Shooting Stars defender, Jamiu Alimi, will take the place of the injured FSV Mainz defender Leon Balogun in Nigeria’s squad for Friday’s 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Swaziland, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The central defender thus joins home-based stars like goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Austin Obaroakpo, Chima Akas, Paul Onobi, Orji Kalu and Ezekiel Bassey in the squad for the clash against the Shilangu.
Alimi was part of the home- based Eagles side that defeated the Stallions of Burkina Faso 2-0 on aggregate last month to secure a berth at next year’s African Nations Championship in Rwanda.
He played the full 90 minutes in the first leg at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt, but was substituted at half time in the return leg a week later in Ouagadougou due to injury.
The Super Eagles will start preparations for the game on Monday in Abuja.
The game against Swaziland is billed for the Somhola National Stadium on Friday.
