Richard Jideaka, Abuja:
The days of Daniel Akpeyi as national team goalkeeper are not over yet, Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer Alloy Agu has told Completesportsnigeria.com.
Chippa United keeper Akpeyi was in goal for Nigeria in the return leg 1-0 loss to Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in March when Carl Ikeme was indisposed. Akpeyi was impressive, pulling off a string of saves but his rating fell when Siasia took him to the Olympics and kept him on the bench.
The former Warri Wolves has not been invited since Gernot Rohr's appointment, but Agu insists Akpeyi is not totally out of the picture.
"Daniel Akpeyi is still in my plans for the Super Eagles goalkeeping position, we dropped him purposely to allow us check out other goalkeepers," Agu told Completesportsnigeria.com.
"We know his worth and we shall call him when the need arises. He remains one of our goalkeepers and we can call on him any time, so long as he plays regularly for his club."
