Aluko: Hull City Will Survive Relegation

–Eagles star says they are primed for survival fight

Nigerian midfielder Aluko insists Hull City will fear no opponent during a formidable run-in that will ultimately decide their Premier League fate.

The Tigers’ quest for survival has stalled badly down the final straight of the campaign and a run of three consecutive defeats leaves them just two points above the relegation zone with six games to play.

Relegation fears are not eased by the fixtures still facing Steve Bruce’s side.

As well as travelling to an in-form Crystal Palace side next in 10 days, City must also face Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester United. Only a home game with relegation rivals Burnley on May 9 would appear to offer any sort of respite in the season’s final weeks.

City’s run-in could hardly be more demanding on paper but Aluko says the points already won this season at the Emirates, Anfield and the Etihad gives reason to believe relegation will be avoided.

“We’re not fearful of anyone in this league,” said Aluko. “We’ve shown we can take points off any of the big teams.

“It’s when we don’t perform that it’s frustrating. Sometimes we lose games for ourselves, rather than teams beating us.

“We know we’ve got good players and if we play to our potential we will stay up. We just have to keep believing.”

Aluko, who returned to the starting XI in the 2-0 defeat at St Mary’s on Saturday, said: “I wouldn’t say we’re anxious. Being anxious won’t help anybody.

“We were brave and really went at Southampton and on another day one of our chances goes in. It would be a different game then.

“Your belief can take a knock when you don’t play well. Like at Swansea, we were all down after that.

“But we’ve come to a good Southampton side and come very close. That was more like us.”

City have a fortnight to stew on their latest setback after this weekend’s scheduled home game with Liverpool was postponed until April 28 due to the Reds’ FA Cup semi-final date with Aston Villa.

Aluko is refusing to be downbeat following their narrow loss at Southampton, but accepts the need to find points is growing.

“I don’t think it was a bad performance. We really took it to them and we were well in the game,” he said.

“We had our chances and considering they’re a top, top team in this league we matched them until the penalty changed the game.

“It was a decent performance, but we’re at the stage where we need results as well.

“We need the points, that goes without saying, but if we keep playing like that and cut out the errors we’ll stay in the league, that’s for sure.”
