Amuneke: Eaglets Must Avenge Suwon Tourney Loss Against Croatia

Despite progressing into the round of 16 at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile, Golden Eaglets Emmanuel Amuneke coach has charged his players to go all out for victory against Croatia on Friday night.

The Nigerian youngsters face Croatia in their final Group A fixture at 12 midnight on Friday. The Eaglets defeated USA and Chile in their first two matches and are guaranteed to win the group.

The Nigeria Football Federation website reports that in an address to his players during Thursday’s training session, Amuneke urged them to prove that they are better than the Croatians who beat them 3-2 during last month’s Suwon Tourney.

“Our match against Croatia is a must win and we have to approach the match will all seriousness. We should not get carried away because we have won our first two matches against USA and Chile,” Amuneke said.

“Don’t forget, it was Croatia that denied us the opportunity of winning the Suwon U-17 Tournament in Korea last month; so it is an opportunity for us to show them we are better than them but unlucky then.”

He called on the players to be focused and put the win against USA and Chile behind them.

“All of you must be ready to play and that is why we are all here. We must remain focused because the match against Croatia is very important; we thank God for success in the last two matches but the match on Friday is also very important for us.”
