Golden Eaglets coach, Emmanuel Amuneke, has stated that the just concluded Suwon Invitational Tournament has afforded the Nigeria U17s the opportunity to assess themselves ahead of the FIFA U-17 World Cup, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
In a chat with Brila FM, Amuneke whose team finished third at the Suwon Tourney, pointed out that they will commence work on the areas they are still lacking in the team.
“The tournament really helped us in the sense that it has given us the opportunity to assess ourselves properly. So what we will do now is to go back and work on those areas, especially our defence, and try to improve before the World Cup starts,” Amuneke said.
He also stated that the tournament afforded them the opportunity to know what to expect from other teams in Chile.
“One important thing about the tournament is that it has given us an idea of other teams who will be at the World Cup. Also, it has exposed us to others. But like I said, we will go back and correct some of the lapses in our team,” he reiterated.
In their first game at the Suwon Tourney, the Eaglets played 1-1 against host South Korea.
They defeated Brazil 2-1 in their second game before losing 3-2 to Croatia.
