Nigerian forward Victor Anichebe was in action as West Brom gave their quest for survival in the Eglish Premier League a huge boost after they defeated Everton 1-0 at Goodison Park on Saturday.
The only goal of the game was scored by Salomon Rondon in the 15th minute off a corner-kick.
Everton had the first chance to go in front in the second minute, but Seamus Coleman’s goal-bound shot was blocked by Jonas Olsson.
In the seventh minute, Everton came close again following Brian Oviedo’s cross but Ben Foster did well to gather the ball despite pressure from Coleman.
But in the 15th minute, West Brom surprisingly took the lead through Salomon Rondon who bundled in an Olsson header.
Everton top scorer Romelu Lukaku came close to making it 1-1, cutting inside and shooting across goal but his effort went wide.
Ross Barkley went close for Everton in the 32nd minute but his shot was deflected into the side-netting for a corner.
Five minutes later, Barkley’s 20-yard strike beat Foster but came off the post.
Tom Cleverley also came close to equalise for Everton in the 40th minute unfortunately just like Barkley, his cross bounced off the post.
In the 55th minute, James McCarthy saw his shot well saved by Foster.
Gareth Barry almost drew Everton level on 60 minutes but his 20-yard strike over the bar.
West Brom almost doubled their lead on 62nd minute through Chris Brunt off an assist from Rondon, his effort went inches wide.
In the 72nd minute, Victor Anichebe was introduced for goal scorer Rondon.
Barry had another chance in the 79th minute but his shot was blocked by Johhny Evans for a corner.
And despite five minutes additional time, West Brom held on to claim a very important win.
