Nigerian forward Victor Anichebe is urging all hands on deck at Sunderland, and remains optimistic that the Black Cat's Stadium of Light can be made a dreaded place where no visiting team can go unscathed in their spirited push to escape relegation, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Anichebe scored his first goal for Sunderland when the Black Cats came from a goal down to beat Bournemouth 2-1 at the Vitality Stadium before the international break.
But with a tough clash ahead when third-bottom Hull City visit Wearside at this weekend, Anichebe insists a spirit of togetherness can help get Sunderland through.
“Hull are fighting as well, they’re not in a great position either so it’s going to be a tough game,” Anichebe told Sunderland's official website.
“We have good momentum, they also have good momentum. They won a game (against Southampton), but we shouldn’t really think of them, we should think of ourselves, and hopefully, we can train hard and be ready.
“Hopefully, the fans will be ready as well, and hopefully, together we can push on and get a good result.
“It was finally pleasing and a relief to win our first game.
“But I keep saying, again, we can’t just rely on that one game. I think we really need to push on from here.
“I always call on the support of the fans, if they can continue to roar us on like they did in the last game it’s always going to give us that push to get good victories.
“I think that’s really going to be important for the next home game. We need to get our home form (better), we need to really make here a fortress.
“I’ve watched Sunderland in the past, and that’s how it is, a really difficult place to come to when the fans are really behind the team.
“So I think with their support and with us improving more and more every week, if we can solidify our home form, then we’ll be good.
“Now, ourselves, the staff, the fans, everybody, we need to stick together and try and get through this.”Jiji.ng the cheapest online shopping in Nigeria Exposed!!!
