Arsenal on Wednesday evening completed a club-record signing of Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon for a fee believed to be in the region of £52million.
The striker who scored 37 goals in all competitions last season underwent his medical on Tuesday but the announcement was delayed till Wednesday after the close of the French Stock Exchange Market which Lyon are listed.
The 26-year-old agreed to a five-year deal and becomes the most expensive player in Arsenal’s history, eclipsing the £42m Wenger paid to sign Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid in 2013.
Arsène Wenger told the club's official website, www. arsenal.com: “We are very happy to have Alexandre join our group. He has shown over a number of years that he can score goals and that he is a very efficient finisher.
"As well, he has very interesting technical qualities and a strong character. So he is a guy who is a great addition for us, and someone who will help us challenge at the top level this season.”
The deal for the striker expected to travel with the team for its pre season tour of Asia is subject to the completion of regulatory processes, Arsenal's website stated.
Wenger has already secured the services of versatile defender Sead Kolasinac from Schalke on a free transfer this summer and is also reportedly keen on bringing Leicester City winger Riad Mahrez or Monaco’s Thomas Lemar to the Emirates Stadium with the futures of Alexis Sanchez and Ozil unclear.Uncover how I make $750 weekly on Facebook using never been revealed Social Media tools.
