Reigning Glo-CAF African Footballer of the Year, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, has expressed sadness following Yaya Toure’s questioning of his choice for the award.
Aubameyang became the first Gabonese to win Africa’s prestigious individual football award when he beat Toure and Andre Ayew to the top prize in Abuja in January.
But the decision to crown the Borussia Dortmund forward didn’t go down well with Toure, who said the decision had brought “shame” on the continent, while Swansea’s Ayew also questioned the move.
Aubameyang told the BBC he did not like the Manchester City player’s comments.
“I was hurt by what was said,” leading scorer in the Bundesliga Aubameyang said.
“It’s a shame.”
“The award is based on the whole year and not just the Africa Cup of Nations.”
