Nigeria’s U-23 star Taiwo Awoniyi believes the current generation of Nigerian football stars will make the Super Eagles a force again in Africa.
Speaking to Completesportsnigeria.com from his base in Germany, the striker who is on loan at German Bundesliga 2 side, FSV Frankfurt, from English Premier League’s Liverpool points to the fact that Nigerian players are gradually finding themselves at big European clubs as a positive sign of things to come.
“I believe God’s grace and mercy leads one to his greatness, with hard work,” Awoniyi said.
“There have been positive comments made by a lot of people about our prospects and that can only motivate us to do more when we play for our teams; clubs or national team.
“For instance, a lot of Nigerians have predicted that I’ll one day lead the Super Eagles attack with Victor Osimhen.
“I’m really happy for him because Wolfsburg is a good team in Germany and he will greatly improve there. I’ve seen him play. We also won the U-23 Cup of Nations together. He’s a great and cool-headed player. The future is really bright.
“Right from time the only person I know that knows what the future holds is God. We’re getting into great teams in Europe and that can only help improve Nigerian football. Of course, we still have wonderful players at home (Nigerian league)” Awoniyi said with air of confidence.
