Flying Eagles striker, Taiwo Awoniyi says he’s aiming to emerge as the African Youth Championship, AYC top scorer in Senegal.
The continent’s youngsters will cluster in the West African country from this weekend seeking for four tickets to represent the continent in the FIFA championship later in the year.
The Nigeria U-20 squad will get their campaign underway with hosts, Senegal, in the opening group A match on Sunday.
The former Golden Eaglets striker who won the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, UAE, revealed it was a privilege to be called upon to represent the country even at a bigger competition.
”For me, I see it as a great privilege to be part of this team and the least any body should expect from us is the title”, Awoniyi enthused gleefully.
”As a striker, my business to ensure we got the ball behind our opponents nets. The objective is to ensure I scored in all the games, taking every chance I get.
“By so doing, hopefully, one can become the top scorer in the competition and helping my country win the cup and get a ticket for the World Cup is also very important”, Awoniyi stressed.
