Super Eagles 2014 World Cup star Michael Babatunde, who recently cancelled his contract with Ukrainian club Dnipro over unpaid wages, tells Completesportsnigeria.com's JOHNNY EDWARD that he has big dreams for 2016…
How was your experience at Dnipro before you cancelled your contract with them?
I was full of excitement when I joined and never imagined my stay would end abruptly due to some circumstances. But in all I'm happy to have played for the club and scored there as well.
You talked about circumstances could you share some with us?
I wasn't paid for several months and that has happened in the last two clubs I played for. It's so difficult coping but the love of the game urges me on.
I had good times at those clubs including Dnipro as well. But at Dnipro, I wasn't playing despite being fit and I was owed too.
It's frustrating I must admit but God has been there for me.
You started your European football career in Ukraine, with this experience of unpaid salaries. Will you still consider teams in Ukraine?
Not all teams will act like that but I have offers from teams in the Major League Soccer and some teams in Turkey and Greece, so all things been equal I will join a good team when the transfer window re-opens in January.
But you would prefer a particular league to play?
The English Premier League is one that excites me so much but I can only play there if teams want me to join them. But like I said I have offers which I'm considering at the moment.
There were reports that you were on the radar of Watford last summer, why did you opt for Dnipro?
I was linked to the club because my agent was in talks with team at that time.
But do you regret it not working out?
No. Because who knows what will happen tomorrow. Everything that happens in life is for a reason and in all I give thanks to God.
You recently shared a picture of your self and your boy. Tell us how fatherhood is like…
Right now that's the only thing that brings me joy.
Because seeing him alone inspires me and my family but I'm hopeful of getting a team in January by God's grace.
The Super Eagles have played eight games under coach Sunday Oliseh and you haven't featured in them. Do you think you can still break into the squad?
Of course. Every player in the team got their chance and they used it. I'll get mine in the New Year and I will prove myself worthy of a place when I get the call-up.
Oliseh is a good coach and his growing record in the team speaks for itself. I know he will succeed.
The African Nations Championship kicks off in January. How do you fancy Nigeria's chances in the competition having finished third on their debut in South Africa in 2014?
We have a good squad with experience compared to what we had in 2014. A couple of players in the current CHAN squad are already first team players in the main squad so I expect them to do well.PROFITABLE FOREX TRADING; We GUARANTEE 37% weekly profit trading your forex account for you!
