Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun is hoping to make his Europa League debut for FSV Mainz when they take on Anderlecht on Thursday at Constant Vanden Stock Stadium, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Balogun who is making his comeback from an injury lay-off insisted in a pre-match conference that only a win can boost Mainz's chances of advancing to the next round of the competition from Group C regardless of the result between Qarabag and Saint Etienne.
Mainz, Anderlecht and Saint Etienne are tied on five points after three games.
"We must keep our concentration levels very high for the full 90 minutes, and it not the first time that we’ve shown we can do it,” Balogun said.
"Of course you start to consider what might be enough to get through to the next round. We want to and have to make sure we get some more positive results.
"We want to stay in Europe into the New Year.”
Balogun has played seven Bundesliga games for Mainz this season but is yet to play in the Europa League.
He has been called up for Nigeria's World Cup qualifier against Algeria on 12 November after missing the win over Zambia in October due to injury.Uncover how I make $750 weekly on Facebook using never been revealed Social Media tools.
