Blatter Resigns As FIFA President

FIFA President Sepp Blatter has announced he is quitting the post following recent corruption allegations.

Blatter, who became FIFA President in 1998, on won another an election for a fifth term last week amid the arrests of several of his allies. But when FIFA called a hastily convened press confefence for Tuesday evening, it was obvious a big announcement was coming.

As part of the shock announcement,  Blatter, 79, has called an extraordinary Fifa congress "as soon as possible" to elect a new president.

Fifa was rocked last week by the arrests on charges of racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering as part of a US prosecution that also indicted 14 people.

A separate criminal investigation into how the 2018 and 2022 World Cups were allocated is also under way.
"I am very much linked to Fifa and its interests. Those interests are dear to me and this is why I am taking this decision," added Blatter.

"What counts most to me is the institute of Fifa and football around the world."

Can someone tell the difference between institutional limitations and individual limitations of the members of the institution? How are FIFA as an institution and Blatter its leader smudged by the direct mischief committed by the other members of FIFA? US must learn to incise issues and deviate them from institutions, individuals and personal. Would they have done so if they did not bid to host the WC?

This is what happens when you stay too long in a post. Blatter has made the right decision at this point, more so when the high and mighty are fed up with him. Only African and asian Federations supported his bid for a fith Term. The other POWERS had had enough, rightly or wrongly. Blatter deserves some rest. He has done his best already.
