Eagles Star Stranded in Abuja

Curfew Stops Reuben Gabriel Entering Kaduna

Super Eagles midfielder, Reuben Gabriel, is stranded in Abuja following Sunday’s violence in Kaduna that forced the state government to impose a 24-hour curfew in the city.

“I want to go and see my family, especially given the fact that I lost my mother recently, but this curfew could not allow me to go,” said the Kaduna-born midfielder.

Violence erupted in Kaduna on Sunday after several churches were allegedly bombed.

The Super Eagles were flown to Abuja last Sunday from Calabar after the team’s 2-0 triumph over Amavubi of Rwanda in the reverse fixture of the 2013 Africa Nations Cup qualifier.

The Kano Pillars midfielder was voted as the Most Valuable Player in the match and was similarly rewarded with a cash of $5,000 courtesy of TomTom.

Gabriel revealed to Complete Sports that he was pleasantly surprised to have been picked as the star-man of the game.

He said he shared part of the money with his teammates and also donated the other part to charity.

“I was surprised after my name was announced as the MVP winner,” Gabriel confessed.

“At the same time, I felt happy  especially when you consider the presence of some ‘big’ players in the team. It’s a team game and I felt I could not have won it without the support of other players. We played together and won together too.”
