NBBF BOSS CELEBRATESN UDOKA’S NBA JOB
Posted: Sep 27, 2012
Nigeria Basketball Federation First Vice-President, Muktah Kaleh, has expressed his excitement over the appointment of Nigeria’s Ime Udoka as the Assistant Coach of the San Antonio Spurs Basketball Club in USA.
The former D’Tigers captain on Wednesday was announced as the assistant coach of the club by the management after noticing what they described as his outstanding work ethic as well as natural inclination to teach.
According toMuktah, Udoka’s appointment is one of the best things to have happened to Nigerian basketball in particular and the country in general in the recent past.
“I am glad to see our ex-internationals flying the flag of this country high outside the shores of the country,” he said.
“To me, Udoka merits that post by all standards because he is a type of person who demonstrated good leadership qualities and charisma when he was captaining D’Tigers. He was also a versatile basketball player while playing for the senior national team.
“I am happy that he has joined the likes of Masai Ujiri and other ex-D’Tigers stars who are holding key positions in USA and Europe.
It’s an indication that the country has potential to produce more world-class coaches.”
Udoka recently returned to San Antonio having played for the Silver and Black from 2007- 2009. In his three seasons with the Spurs, he appeared in 160 games, averaging 4.5 points and 2.7 rebounds in 15.5 minutes.
He spent seven seasons in the NBA, played a total of 316 career games, averaging 5.2 points and 2.9 rebounds in 18.1 minutes.
