EAGLETS VOW TO SEE OFF GUINEA IN CONAKRY
Posted: Oct 28, 2012
Nigeria's Golden Eaglets have vowed to progress at the expense of their Guinean counterparts today in the return leg of the CAN Under17 qualifying match.
The Nigerians take a 3-0 lead into the return leg after winning the reverse game at the UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar on October 14.
Success Isaac, Kelechi Iheanacho and Alhassan Ibrahim were the goalscorers for the Nigerian Under17s a fortnight ago.
Assistant coach, Nduka Ugbade is confident that the Eaglets will edge the Guineans and move into the third round of theAfrican Under17 Championship.
"I'm optimistic that this team has the ability and quality to beat Guinea over two legs. The boys are well prepared for this and we will set up the team to play an attacking brand of football as usual even though we won the first leg 3-0," Ugbade, a former Nigerian Under17 captain, told supersport.com.
Apart from the trio of Isaac, Iheanacho and Ibrahim, the Nigerians have depth in their squad with the likes of Wilfred Ndidi, Mustapha Abdullahi, Bernard Bulbwa and Ifeanyi Matthew.
But Nigeria will once again come up against the Guinean 16-year-old goalkeeper, Ganaika Ibrahima, who stood out in the reverse game and ensured that his team did not suffer a rout.
Nigeria's Golden Eaglets will face either Mali or Mauritania in the third round of the CAN Under17 qualification should they avoid an embarrasing defeat in Conakry on Sunday.
