Joel Obi makes first Serie A Start For Inter
ENGLAND
Mikel Obi; Victor Moses (Chelsea): Super Eagles midfielder Mikel Obi played the entire duration of Chelsea’s comprehensive 4-2 away win against Tottenham Hotspurs at White Hart Lane. It was Mikel’s eighth start of the current season for Roberto Di Matteo’s side.
His compatriot Victor Moses was an unused substitute in the encounter. Moses has so far made three appearances for the Blues this summer.
Osaze Odemwingie (West Brom): Nigerian striker Osaze Odemwingie made his fifth appearance for West Brom when he replaced Graham Dorrans in the 63rd minute in their 2-1 home loss to defending champions Manchester City at the Hawthorns on Saturday.
The Baggies’ only goal of the encounter came off Odemwingie’s shot which fell into the path of Shane Long who steered it past Joe Hart. He has so far scored one goal this term.
Danny Shittu (Millwall): Forgotten Super Eagles defender Danny Shittu played his fifth game for Millwall as they forced Crystal Palace to a 2-2 draw in the Championship south London derby played at Selhurst Park. The centre-back was yellow carded in the 38th minute of the match.
Dickson Etuhu (Blackburn Rovers): Super Eagles and Blackburn midfielder Dickson Etuhu played the entire duration of Rovers’ 1-1 draw at Derby County in his 10th appearance for Blackburn. He has bagged three yellow cards so far.
Seyi Olofinjana, Sone Aluko (Hull City): The duo of Seyi Olofinjana and Sone Aluko were in action on Saturday in Hull City’s 2-1 away win over Ipswich Town.
Olofinjana played for 70 minutes, while Aluko played the entire duration of the Tigers’ win. Olofinjana has played seven games for the team, while Aluko has 12 games to his credit this season with three goals.
Shola and Sammy Ameobi (Newcastle United): Super Eagles invitee Shola Ameobi was substituted in the 38th minute of Newcastle’s 1-1 derby draw at Sunderland on a dramatic afternoon on Wearside. His younger brother Sammy was not listed for the encounter. Shola has played four games for the Magpies while Sammy is yet to feature in the EPL this term.
Victor Anichebe (Everton): In-form Super Eagles striker Victor Anichebe played for 52 minutes on Sunday in Everton’s 1-1 draw away to QPR. The burly forward was replaced by Steven Naismith, but did not score in his sixth game of the season for the Toffees. Anichebe has scored two EPL goals so far and one in the Capital One Cup.
SCOTLAND
Efe Ambrose, Rabiu Ibrahim (Celtic): Super Eagles defender Efe Ambrose scored his first goal for Celtic as they thrashed St Mirren 5-0 in Paisley. Efe who opened the floodgate of goals in the Eagles 6-1 trouncing of Liberia in Calabar a fortnight ago doubled his side’s lead in the 18th minute after Gary Hooper had shot Celtic to the lead three minutes earlier. He has played four games for Celtic since joining the club.
SPAIN
Obafemi Martins (Levante): Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins was in action for 90 minutes but did not score in Levante’s 1-0 away win over Getafe at the Alfonso Perez Coliseum on Sunday. It was his fourth game for Levante since joining the club, scoring two goals.
Ike Uche (Villarreal): Super Eagles striker Ikechukwu Uche replaced Fernando Cavenaghi in the 54th minute in Villarreal’s 1-0 away loss to Recreativo Huelva at the Nuevo stadium on Sunday.
It was an emotional return for the former Recreativo Huelva striker who was making a return to the club he played 133 games and scored 50 goals for between 2003 and 2007.
The striker has scored one goal in seven appearances for Julio Velazquez’s men this term.
Sunday Stephen (Numancia): One-cap Eagles midfielder Sunday Stephen was not listed for action for Numancia as they lost by a lone goal to AD Alcorcon at the Nuevo Los Pajaritos on Saturday. Stephen has scored one goal in five appearances for Numancia this term.
Odion Ighalo (Granada): U-23 international Odion Ighalo replaced Rome Nyom in the 52nd minute in Granada’s 2-1 home loss to Real Zaragoza at the Nuevo Los Cármenes stadium on Sunday. It was his first game of the season since regaining full fitness.
Nosa Igiebor (Real Betis): Super Eagles midfielder Nosa Igiebor was not listed for action for Real Betis on Sunday against Osasuna. He has so far played three games since joining the Spanish outfit in the summer.
ITALY
Joel Obi (Inter Milan): Super Eagles midfielder Joel Obi made his first start of the Serie A campaign for Inter Milan as they kept in touch with Serie A leaders Juventus with victory at home to Catania on Sunday. He was replaced in the 62nd minute by Walter Gargano.
Obiora Nwankwo (Padova): Super Eagles defensive midfielder Obiora Nwankwo made his first start in the Serie B season for Padova in their 2-1 away win over Pro Vercelli on Saturday. Obiorah who has gradually become a regular starter for the Eagles was substituted at half time by Federico Viviani. Prior to this start, the Inter Milan loanee had made three substitute appearances for Padova since his summer switch.
Onazi Ogenyi (Lazio): Former youth international Onazi Ogenyi was an unused substitute in Lazio’s 3-2 win over AC Milan on Saturday. He has made two Serie A appearances for Lazio.
GERMANY
Chinedu Obasi (Schalke 04): Super Eagles forward Chinedu Obasi was not listed for action as Schalke 04 took the Revier derby honours with a 2-1 victory at Borussia Dortmund giving them a five-point advantage over their local rivals. Obasi has so far played two games for Schalke this season.
Joseph Akpala (Werder Bremen): Fringe Super Eagles striker Joeph Akpala was an unused substitute for Werder Bremen in their 4-0 home win over Borussia Monchengladbach at the Westerstadion on Saturday. He has one goal to his credit in six appearances so far since joining the Bundesliga outfit from Club Brugge.
Anthony Ujah (Cologne FC): Former U-23 international Anthony Ujah scored his third goal of the season for Cologne as they came from two goals down to nick a 3-2 win over Jahn Regensburg at the Städtisches stadium on Saturday. The Mainz loanee has so far made six appearances in the Bundesliga 2.
FRANCE
John Utaka (Montpellier); Onyekachi Apam (Rennes): Super Eagles defender Onyekachi Apam started his second game of the Ligue 1 season for Stade Rennes in their 2-1 home win over Montpellier who paraded John Utaka for 37 minutes.
In the 68th minute of the encounter, Utaka was brought down in the box by his compatriot Apam and the resultant spot kick was converted by Younés Belhanda. It was the former Portsmouth winger’s third assist of the season in his sixth game for the reigning French champions.
RUSSIA
Emmanuel Emenike (Spartak Moscow): Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike was not listed for action for Spartak Moscow in their 2-0 away loss to Anzhi Makhachkala at the Kazar stadium. The former Karabukspor star has scored four goals in 11 appearances.
Ahmed Musa (CSKA Moscow): Super Eagles winger Ahmed Musa scored his fifth goal of the season for CSKA Moscow in their 2-0 home win over Rubin Kazan on Sunday. The game was his 11th appearance of the season for the club. The former VV Venlo winger has scored in his last three games for club and country.
Obinna Nsofor (Lokomotiv Moscow): Super Eagles forward Victor Obinna Nsofor played his 11th game of the season for Locomotiv Moscow in their goalless draw away to Rostov on Sunday. The winger has scored one goal thus far. He has started in seven of those games.
HOLLAND
Oluwafemi Ajilore (Groningen): Super Eagles midfielder Oluwafemi Ajilore played no part in his side’s 3-0 away loss to Heerenveen at the Abe Lenstra stadium on Sunday. The former FC Ebedei player has so far made three starts since returning back from his loan spell at Brondby last season.
Uche Nwofor, Alex Nkume (VVV Venlo): The Flying Eagles striker Uche Nwofor played for 80 minutes and failed to add to his two goals for Venlo as they were defeated 3-2 by Feyenoord at the De Koel stadium on Sunday. His compatriot Alex Nkume was not listed for action. It was Nwofor’s seventh game of the season.
Kenneth Omeruo (ADO Den Haag): Flying Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo played as a right-back in ADO Den Haag’s 2-1 home loss to Utrecht at the Kyocera stadium. It was Omeruo’s ninth Eredevisie game of the season. He was in action for the entire duration of the encounter.
UKRAINE
Brown Ideye, Taye Taiwo, Yusuf Ayila (Dynamo Kiev): Super Eagles duo of Brown Ideye and Taye Taiwo were both in action on Sunday in Dynamo Kiev’s 3-1 home to Metalist Kharkiv at the Olympic stadium in Kiev.
Taiwo who was playing his ninth game of the season was yellow carded in the 51st minute of the encounter while Ideye who has not scored in his last seven games in all competitions has played 12 times for Dynamo and has scored eight goals. The duo of Yussuf Ayila and Haruna Lukman were not listed for action.
Michael Odibe (Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk); Lucky Idahor (Zorya): Former youth international Lucky Idahor scored his third goal of the season for Zorya in their 3-2 home win over Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk who paraded Michael Odibe for 90 minutes. It was Idahor’s 11th start of the campaign this season while for Odibe it was his eighth game of the season.
Babatunde Michael (Kryvbas): Babatunde Michael replaced Sergey Samodin in the 86th minute as Kryvbas were forced to a 1-1 draw Arsenal Kiev on Sunday. It was the seventh appearance for the former Heartland FC winger in the Ukrainian league this term.
TURKEY
Kalu Uche (Kasimpasa); Nduka Ozokwo (Mersin Idmayurdu): In-form Super Eagles midfielder Kalu Uche failed to score in his second consecutive game for Kasimpasa in their 2-2 draw at home to Mersin Ýdmanyurdu who paraded Nduka Ozokwo for 86 minutes at the Recep Tayyip Erdoðan stadium on Sunday.
Former Espanyol striker Uche has notched up six goals in all competitions (five in the league) for the newly promoted Turkish side. He has so far played eight games since joining the club this summer. For Ozokwo, he has so far played seven games for the relegation battlers.
Isaac Promise (Antalyaspor); Michael Eneramo (Sivasspor): Fringe Super Eagles striker scored a brace for Antalyaspor in their 4-2 home win over Sivasspor who paraded their Nigerian import Michael Eneramo who was also on target in the encounter.
It was Promise’s seventh appearance for his new side, scoring three goals while Eneramo has scored four goals in eight appearances for Sivasspor.
Joseph Yobo (Fenerbahce): Injured Eagles skipper Joseph Yobo as expected was not listed in Fenerbache’s 1-1 away draw against Bursaspor. The former Everton defender has so far played six times for Fenerbache before sustaining a thigh injury.
Ekigho Ehiosun (Gençlerbirligi): Super Eagles striker Ekigho Ehiosun was an unused substitute in Gençlerbirligi’s 3-3 home draw against league leaders Galatasaray on Friday. The former Samsunspor striker has made two appearances in the club’s seven games in the league.
BELGIUM
Michael Uchebo (Cercle Brugge): Former youth international Michael Uchebo was an unused substitute for Cercle Brugge in their 2-1 loss to Mechelen at the Jan Breydel stadium on Sunday. He has made nine appearances so far this term with no goal.
Derick Ogbu (OH Leaven): Derick Ogbu who scored a hattrick for OH Leaven in their 4-0 demolition of Sporting Charleroi a fortnight ago fired blanks for his side in their 4-1 home win over Club Brugge on Sunday. The former Umm Salal attacker was replaced by Obvious Karuru at half time. He has so far played 12 games so far and has scored three goals.
