Former Super Eagles technical adviser, Jo Bonfrere, believes Obafemi Martins still has a role to play in the team following his recall by current handler of the side, Sunday Oliseh.
The Dutchman also praised Oliseh for handing Manchester City starlet Kelechi Iheanacho his first senior national team call-up, Completesportsnigeria.com can report.
Martins, who has not featured for the three-time kings of Africa in two years, is in the Super Eagles squad that will face Swaziland in a 2018 World Cup qualifier in November.
The former Inter Milan hitman has also been in fantastic form for his Major League Soccer side, Seatle Sounders, for the past two seasons.
Bonfrere, who led the Super Eagles to a second place finish at the Ghana/Nigeria 2000 Africa Cup of Nations, told Completesportsnigeria that the striker is still good enough to play at the international level.
"Yes, Martins is still good to play for the Super Eagles," the Dutchman told completesportsnigeria.com from Holland on Friday.
"He has done well in the MLS and he deserves the chance to play for Nigeria again."
The former South Korea coach also gives coach Oliseh a thumbs up for inviting City youngster Iheanacho for the game.
He said: "Iheanacho is a great prosect who will do well for Nigeria in future. The coach has done well by inviting him. They need to start preparing him for a bigger role in future."
