Former Super Eagles coach, Jo Bonfrere, has backed Samson Siasia to follow in his footstep by leading the U-23 Eagles to glory at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The Dutchman was in charge when the Dream Team made history by becoming the first African side to win the gold medal in the men's football event at the Atlanta '96 Olympic Games.
Bonfrere told Completesportsnigeria.com from his base in the Netherlands on Wednesday that Siasia has the experience and the tactical acumen to help the team secure the top prize in the event once again.
"To be honest, I don't know much about the team, but I believe Samson can help them win the gold medal in Rio," the former South Korea coach told Completesportsnigeria.com.
"He (Siasia) has done well with the youth sides in the past and his experience will be vital for Nigeria in Brazil.
"But there are a lot of things that will still come into play, like getting a good draw and preparing well for the competition.
"If they are lucky and get things right, they can win it again.''
Aside from winning gold in 1996, Nigeria also won silver at the 2008 edition in Beijing, when Siasia was in charge.
The Eagles will head to Rio 2016 as African champions after beating Algeria 2-1 in the final of Africa U-23 Nations Cup last Sunday in Senegal.
